For all you Lynne Reid Banks fans (I know you're out there), I just finished her newest book, Tiger, Tiger (burning bright, deedle deedle deedle dee). Anyone read it? I don't know why you would have, seeing as it's recommended for grades 5-7, but that's never stopped some of you before.
It seems to be exactly the same story as the movie Two Brothers, which I haven't seen, but I noticed it on a shelf in Blockbuster the other night, read the back of the DVD case, and said to myself, "This sounds suspiciously like that tiger book I'm reading." I don't know that I'd like to see the movie though, because I never really like animal movies. Or animal books, really, but this one is more about the people (ancient Romans) than the animals (tigers).
Anyway. Tiger is good, a quick read, and compelling. By the last chapters I was actually on the edge of my seat. Not bad for an animal book!

Lynne Reid Banks is a great story teller - I suspect she could write about petition collectors in front of Wal Mart and make compelling reading out of it!
Thanks for the heads up - I will get it and check it out - I'm always looking for good read-alouds for my students - 10 minutes a day - settles them down and they start believing that a book might be a good thing!!
Another compelling animal book... Life of Pi. I know Mom recommended it to me but hasn't read it, but you all should.
I am reading Life of Pi right now, so far so good. The Two Brothers movie is a very sweet movie and the kids like it too...
I love Life of Pi. It is one of those books you can read over and over again and never get tired of it
I guess I will have to check out both life of Pi and Tiger, Tiger.
I just finished "Papa married a mormon" By John D. Fitzgerald A fun read that I started after I heard that Tom Dennis aka "the great brain" (some of my favorite childhood books!) actually joined the LDS church, served a mission in asia and married in the temple.
i've been meaning to read papa maried a mormon too - and isn't lynne reid banks the lady who wrote indian inthe cupboard?
as for life of pi - bruce liked it - i jumped through it - it was a little intense in parts - we had a good chat about it at book club.
Lynne Reid Banks is the Indian in the Cupboard lady. We really like those books.
We read Life of Pi for bookgroup and one gal was so disappointed when seh realized that it really wasn't a true story. We all had a good laugh. Including her.
Hope I didn't give away too much for those who haven't read it...
