Remembering Pop!

I am not much of a blogger anymore - I like doing it, I just forget to do it!
Anyway, don't want February to go by - which it already did - without remembering Pop!!

A good man - and I was fortunate to get to know him as he was "mellowing out" so my interactions were all warm and good.

Happy Birthday Grandpa  aka Pop!

A long ago birthday -

In 1922, Harry Francis Terrill wrote this letter to his son, Harry Porter Terrill, who was turning 6.  The poignancy of the letter is underscored when you realize that on August 12, 1925, Harry Francis died.

Not sure of the date on this family photo, but it was certainly only a year or two before HFT died.  Pop is the boy in the middle of the photo.

Today would be Pop's 98th birthday.  He is shown here with Helen, and his niece Sonny.

Pop was a fine man, and those of us who knew him miss him still.  And as more and more details in his life are made available to us, we love and understand him even more.

Family history - a treasure trove of memories - we should be sharing our memories of this fine man.

Happy Birthday Pop - and Happy Groundhog Day too!

Glad to be in a forever family!

Today is Groundhog's Day - which means that it's Pop's birthday also!! I remember thinking it was pretty nice that Pop's birthday was on a fun kind of holiday. Made it special each year.

As the years go by - and as the folks in the photograph move on - I am even more grateful that the birthday is one we can celebrate with assurance that we will all be together again one day.

Grandpa Terrill was a special man. His last years were a bit sad - he struggled with health and clarity - but he was pretty kind and loving through it all.

Glad to have so many good memories.

If you knew him, think of one of them today. Maybe even share it. If you didn't know him, ask someone who did to share a memory with you!!

One of my favorite memories - the times he would call our house, often confused, but somehow knowing who we were. And he would ask for Harry. And then say, "He's a special man you know."

Always made me smile!

Remembering Grandpa Terrill - aka "Pop"

Today is Ground Hog's Day. And it's Grandpa Terrill's birthday. This year he will have been gone for 20 years. And you look at this photo and it seems like he is frozen in time - great old photos have a way of doing that.

We all have Grandpa Terrill memories - I recall all the times he came up to Utah to go hunting with Harry. He'd be at our house - and he was the most gracious and affable guest. One time he complimented me on the meal I had prepared. I didn't think it was all that great, but he said, "At least it's original. I hate the predictability of packaged or restaurant food."

Another time he gave me a charming little children's plate and cup - they were china - he said they'd been a gift from a client who was congratulating him on his new granddaughter. The cup still sits on the bathroom sink in Bonny's house.

One of my favorite photos is of him holding Hannah when she was a baby. She had casts on her legs. He wasn't famous for holding babies or tending them, but he held her the whole time we were at a family Easter egg hunt at a park. And she didn't fuss or wiggle or squirm. I think they were soulmates for that little span of time.

And those sad days at the end, when he was confused and upset. But he called our house and always knew who I was. One time he called and asked for Harry. And he said, "He's a fine man you know." Obviously part of the memory was still intact.

The photo below is from the last hunting trip he took - with your Dad and Jim.

Think about your Grandpa Terrill - and share a memory if you have one!

And maybe give Grandma a call!
