Young Women Camp - 2015

I was pretty surprised - I would in fact say very surprised - when I was asked to serve as Stake Young Women Camp Director!  I spent a lot of the spring and summer grousing about being an old lady and channeling Idonna Richins - but no one seemed to listen to me!  And lots happened to complicate my life and I was hither and yon and wondering how it would all come together - especially when I got diagnosed with a kidney stone and ended up needing surgery to blast it out!

But we kept having meetings 2 or 3 times a month to get the YCLs trained and organized.  And I met often with Trista O - our Stake Young Women President - who was convinced I would do just fine and was the perfect person for the job!

When my granddaughters were here in the summer, they set to work making "pillow treats" for me to distribute daily, Polly was born in a timely manner and I was able to spend some good time with Eliza and family, the kidney stone got blasted out with a minimum of fuss and bother, we got up to Phoebe's for Agnes' baptism, and Frances was able to come and stay with Grandma so that Harry could come to camp with me.

I told Harry he's in for the long haul now!!  If I go to camp, he goes to camp!!  (And he told Trista it was the best week he'd had all summer!)

Eve went to camp with Bonny's girls, since their family was going to be on a cross-country road trip, and was feeling sad about not having a grandchild at camp with me.  But Ella and Esme opted to come along, and that was really fun!

There were 58 girls at camp - 8 from the El Monte Spanish Ward - which is in another stake - and I was at first concerned that this might be a problem.  But the girls all reached out to one another in an exemplary manner - fellowshipping at its finest!

Skit night was lots of fun - always is!

I worked with some great leaders too - here we are doing our skit - we had been assigned the Young Women Value of Virtue.

Jane Colton took all these photos - and it made me wish I had a treasure trove of photos from the 15 years I went to camp so many years ago!!  I have few photos from camp - I think I too busy to think about taking photos - and maybe didn't even have a good camera, now that I think about it.

Sister Ogilvie kept telling me these were the best girls and I'd love being with them - and she was absolutely correct!  I love everyone of them!  Even the ones whose names I kept mixing up!

Mike and Shauna Miller and Chris Reid brought up canoes and we went to Silverwood Lake - what a fun day!!

Members of the priesthood came up daily - we were well-looked after - and the culminating testimony meeting was a perfect end to perfect week.

We had some great activities, crafts, we introduced "The Uchtdorf Hour" - ask me about that sometime - it was a hit! The food was good, ask me about "Singing Rocks" too - what a great tradition - we did away with Read Alouds and just had mail instead - and it was a hit too!

Those Young Women know how to have a great time!!

So glad no one listened seriously to my grumbling!

Happy day to Sully!!

We are in Oregon, celebrating with Agnes and Sully and their birthdays!!  Love this little boy - he is such a joy!!

It's wonderful to watch him grow - but part of you wants to hold on to the moment!!

Have a great, growing year Sullivan!!

How can it be??

We are in Portland to celebrate the 8th birthday and baptism of sweet Agnes!!   How can this little girl be such a big girl now??

I don't think I will ever get used to the way kids just grow "up, up and away!!"

Happy Day to Robbie!!

So grateful that Robbie joined our family!!

He's always up for an adventure - even a Terrill family reunion at the Ogden City Cemetery!!

He cooks too - and shares his talents!!

He's great with kids!!

And always up for a new adventure!!

Have a great day Robbie - and a wonderful year ahead.

(You notice I've carefully avoided the "th" word!!)

It's been a quiet week - so far!

Same-old, same-old this week - visits to Taylor and kids and helping with errands and fun - the splash park is our new fave!!  I'm certainly glad I'm nearby to spend time with them.  (I am a fan of "same-old, same-old" as anyone who knows me knows!)

Worked in lunch with my good friend Norma.  Who would have known all those years ago when we were parent helpers at SMCNS that we'd turn into great friends??

Our new gig is to get sandwiches at Market Grill and then eat them at one another's house - it's the best.

Hang onto your friends - even when your paths seem to diverge - as ours did when we left SMCNS - stay in touch - it's worth it!!

The new kid on the block!!

Since we got back from Virginia and Karl's wedding,  I have been spending time with Taylor, Keesa, and baby Francis.

I have enjoyed getting to know Taylor better - and Keesa and Francis too.  Francis is truly a model child - the kind you read about but doubt you will ever meet!  He eats and sleeps and eliminates - and doesn't cry much at all!!  He's busy growing I guess - he didn't even lose weight for his first doctor visit at 5 days!!

Having two new grandbabies at once is fun and exciting - it's happened before - and we are delighted it happened again.

Grandbaby Number 19!!

So, I think I'd better go back and start from the beginning - but I may jump around - fair warning!!

I left May 8th and flew to Virginia to be with Eliza, Matt, and family and the upcoming new baby.  As soon as I got there, Eliza started stressing about going over since I'd come early!!  (She is her mother's daughter - that's the sort of thing I always say!!)

But sweet Polly Helen co-operated beautifully and came on her due date, Mother's Day, May 10th!!  She is a beauty - and everyone loves her!!

More to come - staying in VA for 3 weeks was tons of fun - it was work too - but like Beverly at SMCNS always says, "It is work worth doing!!"

So I will be reporting some of my adventures.

Stay tuned!!

What's going on!

So, my computer is not working so well - at least when it comes to letting me access the photos I have in iPhoto.  Any suggestions from you folks out there in the hinterlands would be appreciated.  I do have a call in to my tech guy, but no answer yet.

So I am taking photos off my phone for now - and I'm way behind in my reporting - not that there are that many folks who care, but I do pride myself on having a current blog!!

Today I went out to Glendora to take Taylor to some appointments she had.  She is recovering nicely, but it can be stressful to take a five year old and a newborn out to run around - not to mention dealing with an old lady too - one who says things like "which way are we going, right or left?"

Since I'm retired, I noticed that I didn't notice that it was summer vacation!!  (Every day feels like a vacation day to me!!)  And all the schools aren't out - we've passed many on our driving routes and the kids are still there - at least they were today.)

Today we did lunch at Ikea - special request from Keesa - and did you know that at the end of June, the free meals for kids on Tuesdays will end?

What is the world coming to??
