happy day to agnes mae!

Happy 9th birthday today to the lovely Agnes!!  I vividly remember her birth - I was at the house with Henry and Calvin - waiting to hear from David!!  Everyone was contacting me and wanting to know the news - but I hadn't heard yet from David!

She was worth the wait though - and just keeps getting more endearing each year!!

Have a great 9th year sweet Agnes!

How can it be??

We are in Portland to celebrate the 8th birthday and baptism of sweet Agnes!!   How can this little girl be such a big girl now??

I don't think I will ever get used to the way kids just grow "up, up and away!!"

Happy day to Miss Agnes!!

Today is Agnes' 7th birthday - I remember so vividly her birth day!!  I was home with Henry and Calvin waiting for the word from David - and it seemed to take all day!!  Everyone was contacting me too - because they thought it was taking all day too!!

We were delighted to have a little girl in the family - and we continue to be delighted.

Agnes was here for several days in June and we loved it!!

Have a great day Agnes Mae - and a great 7th year too!

Happy Birthday to the Lovely Miss Agnes

One of the people Agnes is named for is my paternal grandmother - Agnes Marrietta Busath Clayton - shown above as a lovely young woman.  I have her name as my middle name.  I haven't always appreciated the name either, although I appreciated the woman who was my grandmother.  I never met her - she died when my father was a teenager - but he talked about her his whole life, so we felt that we knew her.

So when  the lovely Miss Agnes came into our lives, the name came to have so much more meaning for me.  I am happy now that it is part of my name too.

Sweet Agnes Mae - the Birthday Girl today - and a little princess in her own right every day of the year!!

May it be a wonderful day for you - and a wonderful year ahead too!!

Party Time!

Phoebe posted on her blog some photos from Agnes' 5th b-day party.  She commented that she remembered having such a wonderful 5th b-day party, that she wanted the same for Agnes!  Well, here are the photos from her party - doesn't look nearly so clever and splendid as the one she threw for Agnes - but beauty must be in the eye of the beholder!!

I can't even remember the names of all these kids - on the couch is Chad Burdette, Jenny Dequer Graves, Phoebe, Jill Stewart, unknown, and on the floor, the only one I can identify by name is Celeste Coleman, sitting on the end.  Some of the kids lived on our street.

I was early pregnant with Eliza and feeling queasy - I'm pretty sure we played "Pin the Tail" on something too.

That's Amy in the striped shorts, and Harry F. in the foreground - I'm sure I had them helping too.

I searched and searched for one of my fave photos of Phoebe - in her party dress by a laundry basket full of balloons - not sure what we did with them.  But I can't find it.  Maybe she has it.  I made the dress from a Vogue pattern - I still have the pattern - and she still has the dress!

All my kids do wonderful parties - for birthdays, showers, weddings, whatever kinds of occasions.  Clever decor, wonderful food, charming favors - they didn't get it from me.

But if you're ever invited to one of their events, be sure to go - you'll be glad you did!

The start of the birthday celebrating!!

Since is was Agnes' actual b-day today, we did sing and eat cake. (The "party" is Monday night.)

We had good eats and lots of fun and conversation.

There are always a few takers for some video time.

Had a chess match tool

The birthday girl guarding her cupcake!!

We enjoyed having Harry, Dawn and family, Greg, Miella and Kevin, Grandma Terrill, and Noah join us. It's going to be a busy, fun week, so watch for postings!!

"Thank heaven for little girls"

What a treat it has been to have Agnes here to celebrate her 4th birthday!! She is certainly a little girl you'd want to know and hang out with!!

In only 4 years she's managed to capture our hearts.

And she's truly on the way to becoming a little Miss Phoebe - while definitely being her very own person.

She's a little fairer than Phoebe ever was, but so many of her mannerisms are vintage Phoebe.

But I can't think of better "little girl" for her to emulate!!

Like her mom she makes friends everywhere.

Happy Day to you Agnes!! And a wonderful year ahead too!!

Counting down to Monday

We started the countdown today by celebrating Agnes' 3rd b-day in fine style - with mani/pedi's at La Belle Salon!! Agnes was skeptical at first - said she wanted to go to the grocery store with Dad instead of with Mom and Grandma. But she took one look at the rows of nail polish to choose from and was converted!! And she certainly entertained everyone in the salon.

Phoebe is "lookin' good" but is happy to put her feet up!!

And I must say, Phoebe has the art of the guest gift basket down to a science - at least she knows how to read me!!

And look what she found at the Dollar Store!!

Calvin sure knows how to make taking the trash out a lot of fun!! (Later Henry punched holes in the sides and threaded string through them to make some spiffy stilt walkers!! Those Cub Scouts know how to have a good time, don't they??)

This is the hydrangea plant I bought when Henry was born - it's taller than he is - and thriving too!

And here's Agnes admiring David's tomato plant - with one green tomato so far!! For David, hope springs eternal!!

Agnes said, "I want the cupcakes on fire when you sing Happy Birthday!")

Neighbors and friends joined our little soiree in the backyard.

This princess dress up outfit was a big hit with Agnes!!

You had to be there, but she was twirling and dancing around all day long. And making everyone around her smile - a lot like the 3 year-old her mom was!!

I'll be doing an up-to-the-minute blog post for Monday's big event. The birth is scheduled for 12 noon - so be checking in!!
