One season ends

and another never seems to end. (I'm referring to fire season.)

Esme' had her last game of the season last Saturday. She was VERY excited to get her trophy. Sometimes I think that is the sole reason behind her desire to play soccer. Ara was supposed to have her playoffs today. They were canceled due to very poor air quality. So we are feasting on watermelon, cheese, juice and cookies as I was in charge of snack for Ara's game.

S,M,L

Me: So how was Sunbeams? Did you have fun with Porter?

Annika: Porter didn't go, he was having a nap.

Me: A nap?

Annika: Yeah, mumble mumble was holding him.

Me: Who?

Annika: Uhhhh, Medium Harry?

Me: Ahhh, yes.

Ooops!

This seems to be our weekend. We think Ella might have broken her arm. The docs at Urgent Care aren't sure - I guess Pediatric Radiology is tricky - so they put it in a soft cast just in case. If it is broken, it's at her elbow, so a nice BIG cast is in order. She hurt it while playing basketball and tripped over her friend's foot. She landed on her outstretched arm. Ouch. We did have dinner last night with some friends and one of them is a radiologist and I had him look at the films, he doesn't think it's broken. We are going to have our other friend (it's nice to have friends in pertinent-to-my-needs jobs) who is an orthopedist look at the films today after church. Although that will be later since I am at home with Annika (pink eye) and Ara (headache) and the road is closed at the bottom of the canyon because some clown drove into a power pole yesterday, so they are replacing it today....ALL day.

It is raining, so I think after we are done fasting, we will watch Pippi Longstocking and make Hot Chocolate and in the mean time, I am downloading ALL the Harry Potter CD's onto my computer so they can then go onto my ipod!

Reflections......... on Death

I was so sad to hear of Madeline L'Engle's passing. I enjoyed her YA lit, especially A Wrinkle in Time (of course). I was not aware, however of her other writings, namely her Sonnets. A woman on a Lovelace List noted this and I loved it - so I thought I'd share. It seemed especially poignant to me as I was thinking about a fellow ward member who lost her husband this past December. They so liked each other, and I know she misses him deeply. I also thought of Jim and Trudy and how much they enjoyed each other's company. It was also poignant to me as I was thinking about how much I miss Bruce now that he is so busy with his new calling. Last night we finally got to catch up on all the mundane things in our lives. And I thought, those are the kinds of things I will miss if Bruce were to pass. It just gave me a little taste of what it might be like.

Sonnet 1

Your place is empty, empty in the night
When I reach out with hand or foot to touch
Your living flesh, the warmth that offers such
An affirmation, oh, it is not right
The bed is empty, made for two, not one.
The reflex does not die, to touch, to reach,
To find. I think it will be never done,
And I am glad of that. It seems that each
Of us find our own answers in this grief.
I know you have been here. You have been here.
The empty place is full of deep relief
Because it still is yours and still is dear.
But oh! That my dear love were in my bed
And my life flesh to your live flesh still wed.

What's up, Chuck?

You should ask Dawn about our ride to the airport yesterday. I have never been more grateful for an extremely prepared sister-in-law then I was in the car on the freeway.
