The peaceful aura that usually reigns on our quiet street was rudely shattered tonight by screaming fire engines and police cars racing up our street -
Smoke was billowing out of the house and flames were leaping out of the exhaust fan on the top of the roof. I heard a fireman yell that it was an attic fire. I saw the neighbors being led out of their house carrying suitcases and bags.
Rick Seely even walked up from their place to see if it was our house!! It got smokier and smokier and the whole neighborhood came out. It's been an hour and they are still here and still working. They have big fans blowing the smoke out of the house. Dad asked some questions and found out that the caretaker there was working in the upstairs bathroom - on the wiring - when he heard a "pop." When he opened a door to the attic to check, he was greeted with flames.
It seems to be not as bad as it could have been - but it was still pretty scary!!
Monrovia and Arcadia responded very rapidly - that is certainly comforting!
