Conference Weekend - and Spring Break - Comes to a Close!

Enjoyed watching sessions of Conference this weekend.  Originally was having 13 folks for dinner - ended up with 8! (9 if you count Deacon - who certainly counts, but he doesn't sit up to the table yet!)  But we had a feast and a fine time anyway.  (Mom, Donna, and Mary didn't make it - and neither did Harry P. and Noah.  But Harry, Dawn and family, and Marjorie did a respectable job with my offerings!  And Harry F. manned the barbecue!!)

Grandma's house seems to inspire the tetherball set!!  Some exciting games were played!

Deacon can roll over - and usually has an audience and a cheering squad when he does!

It's back to school tomorrow for some of us - all good things must come to an end.  No more holidays until Memorial Day!  Alas, can I survive??

Can I just say . . .

that I LOVE General Conference Weekend!!

In fact, I'd vote for it quarterly!! (If they were taking a vote!)

What was your favorite talk, story, quote?

My favorite quote - so far anyway!

Of course General Conference was great - it always is! My fave quote so far - roughly anyway, need to get the exact wording - is from Sister Beck:
"We can experience disappointment but not be disappointed in ourselves."

And I got all the ironing done in the Saturday a.m. session!

A Discovery

This is a shot of me at Temple Square in October of 1963. I was a freshman at BYU. I don't remember if it was all of my roommates or just a couple of them, but we took the bus up State Street - from Provo - to go to General Conference.

Today after the afternoon session of Conference, I was watching the KBYU fillers and they did the story of President Monson. A great little film to watch, BTW, but as I was watching, something clicked after they talked about him being called in October of 1963.

They showed archival footage of the session where he was sustained - and I'm pretty sure I was there. I don't remember him being sustained - but I think we went to the Saturday and Sunday sessions. And what a nice little trip down Memory Lane to see and hear Hugh B. Brown as he presented President Monson's name!! (Love President Brown!!)

So, just saying - pay attention wherever you are now - it may turn out to be pretty significant a ways down the road!!

General conference

I am looking forward to downloading the talks and listening to them in the car, because I missed a lot here and there while chasing Theo around. Off the top of my head, a few favorites--(not in any particular order, including chronological)

Elder Wirthlin
Elder Oaks
Elder Sivic
Elder Condie
Sister Allred (RS meeting)
Elder Scott (although about half of it went over my head I still found it interesting)

That's all I remember for now.

Favorite quotes that I wrote down (I'll probably remember more once I listen again):
"Jesus Christ wants you to succeed." - Elder Uchtdorf
"Just as God remembered Rachel, He will remember you." - Elder Condie
"Do you love the Lord? Spend time with Him. Meditate His words. Take His yoke upon you. Seek to understand and obey." - Elder Wirthlin
"Thank you." - Elder Wirthlin (to Elder Nelson)

Any thoughts to add?

A song for you

After priesthood session last week, Matt came home and talked about how much he liked the session's closing song. A girl in our ward sent out a link to an mp3 of the song.

It's based on the Psalm of Nephi and set to the melody of the hymn "Be Still, My Soul." John Tanner wrote the lyrics.

Enjoy!
