Some progress . . .

Since I lost my camera, I don't take pictures!! I need to find a camera store and get a battery for Dad's camera - which is just like mine - and his battery was in my camera case when it got lost. It was a back up battery.

So you can't see the growing chaos here - the living room is totally empty - they did a fourth coat of varnish. The kitchen contains the piano, the couch, the fridge, both tables, and the propane stove!! It is quite cozy!! And I like the way the hutch looks in the room formerly known as the laundry room. Too bad we need the cupboard space more.

Tonight we dined on various frozen delights from the freezer - and I hope they weren't spoiled - we did put dry ice in there during the power outage.

This can't go on - but I'm sure it will.

We did order a rug - online - here's hoping it's all we want it to be. It's big - 8 by 11. And we ordered a new light fixture for the dining area - it's a "bowl" with oiled bronze metal parts. I like it - very faux Craftsman.

I think the old curtains will go back up - don't have time for anything else at the moment. Dad doesn't like the roller blinds, but I consider them essential so they are staying. We may not get the art back up in time for the visits - but we are thinking we want to consider things and do some new configurations.

We decided on Corian counter tops in Sand - a concession on both of our parts. We need a faucet - we have chosen a sink, a microwave, a stove hood, a new dishwasher. And we need cabinet hardware.

We are going with Vanilla Custard paint for both rooms. I was going to keep the green in the living room, but there is no green in the rug, so the creamy vanilla will work better. As Dad says, we can always change paint. (Of course we all know that around here, we usually don't - we just talk about it.)

The cabinets will be painted a shade or so darker than the custard - like burned custard!! (ha, ha!!)

This may well be the year without a Christmas tree - I'm fine with it. Hope it doesn't offend anyone else. I just cannot abide the idea of getting more stuff out - and trying to find a place for it.

It could certainly be worse - the power could still be out!!

Update

Baby Jonah has good moments and not-s0-good moments. There are lots of visitors, lots of tears, lots of food and flowers and love.

His dad modified a binky so he could suck on a pacifier and it seems to soothe him. The need to suck is paramount for babies, but Jonah needs a feeding tube, so he doesn't get much chance to suck, so this is nice little bonus for him. His mom and dad are continuing to take excellent care of him - I am so impressed with the way they are handling everything this situation has thrown at them.

They will post with pictures one day - meanwhile they are busy loving and caring for their family.

And tonight we had 4 candles on his birthDAY cake.

Keeping up with change!! (lol)

I know that there are those of you who like to be "up" on all the details around here. So here' s brief recap on significant changes at the old homestead.

For starters, we have retired the old blender - I'm sure a moment of silence is in order!!

Lest you had a moment of panic that chocolate shakes might be a thing of the past around here, we have this great new Oster blender with all kinds of bells and whistles - and it's programmable!! We are converted to the healthy smoothie a la Bonny and Bruce - so we needed one that could crush ice!! It works great btw!

In honor of Phoebe's recent visit, I was able to get Dad to hang a couple of prints for me - I don't trust myself to find the studs - and these are heavy frames.

Adds a nice touch to my laundry/sewing/dvd viewing/sending cards room.

And last but not least, I finally took down the white tablecloth that had been doubling as a curtain and put up real curtains. (Didn't get the a/c out of the window though - maybe Christmas visits will be an inspiration!)

Speaking of Christmas visits, be sure to let me know the dates you are coming so we can plan!!

Have a great day-after-election-day! Some of my guys won, some didn't.
