Happy day to Bonny Brae!

You may love all your children equally - but you love them differently.  The child that makes you a mother for the first time just has a special little spot all to herself.    (It's the least you can do for all you put her through!!)

Bonny is a bright light in our family - she's a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, teacher, friend, student - name a category and she probably fills the bill!

Here's to a happy day full of all her favorites.  And here's to a wonderful year ahead too!

We love you Bonny!!

A time and a place -

It's funny how a badly lit, somewhat old photograph can totally evoke a time and place.  When Harry and I started sorting the slides, we could figure out what the photo basically was, but not much else.  Seeing it "up close and personal" makes a huge difference.

For example, here is the living room from the 4-plex where we lived for 3 years - in SLC - our landlord was Brother Butterfield, so we called it "Butterfield Arms."  The floral carpet, the window seat, the fabric covered box holding Bonny's toys, the walker in the corner, the throw pillow made from a towel, the quilt from Grandma Mary.

And Bonny - who always wore a bib - always!  And I can remember that little outfit - a fave of mine.  And the white strap coming out of the box - she loved to chew on it.

I love a walk down Memory Lane - especially one with old photos.

Happy Day to Bonny Brae!!

Before Bonny was born, Harry was adamant that her name would be Bonny Brae - as in "Max Welton's braes are bonny, Where early falls the dew. . . "   I had never heard of it before, but it had a nice ring to it - and so Bonny with a y was named!!

She has always been a wonderful part of our family - the perfect first child who set a marvelous example for her siblings to follow - an example she continues to provide.

It was just Bonny and Harry for several years - and they were good years - we wanted more children, but the two we had were pretty wonderful and we had some great times - even getting the dimes from the dryers and visiting the city dump - with visits to Porky's Milk Can and Family Drive-In to follow!  (I think you had to be there!!)

We welcomed Phoebe soon after - and Bonny continued to be the best big sister!

As Miss America in 1979 - frustrated when everyone mistook her for a mere princess!!  The California years began - in spite of some rocky beginnings!!  And the "little kids" joined the line up - and Bonny stepped up to the plate once more!!

Dad and daughter - how did he know when he chose her name that she would indeed be bonny?

Ever the leader, she chose the perfect companion - and the family began to grow once more - and the more the merrier it continues to be!!

When the visiting professor from Scotland called her name when she graduated from UCSB, well, it just doesn't get much better than that!!  (Insert a Scottish brogue here!!)

Christmas is always a highlight of the Terrill family year - and Bonny adds to the festivities!

Bonny and Bruce - going strong after almost 22 years!!

And the wonderful Bolander Beauties - Max Welton's braes are bonny - and Bonny's bairns are pretty bonny too!!  (Is that redundant??)

Happy Day to you Bonny Brae - and may this be the best year ever!!

Happy Day to Bonny Brae!!

It's almost a cliche - but where have the years gone?? I can remember when this photo was taken - at the ZCMI Photo Studio. I had a coupon for a 3 by 5 photo - and that's exactly what I got - and that's all I got!! We were struggling students with no credit cards - so when I redeemed a freebie, that's all I got!!

But I'm certainly glad I got it - and certainly glad that we got Bonny!! What a wonderful way to become parents - having a sweet daughter - who has grown to become such a wonderful woman.

She's about 6 weeks old in this shot with Harry - we still have the rocker and the red chair (except it's green now), and the old Victrola cabinet - though it's down at the shop these days.

So many good memories are all tied up with Bonny's birth - and the memories continue to grow!!

Have a great day - and a wonderful year ahead - you deserve the best, Miss Bonny Brae Button-Eyes!!

The Week In Review

Tonight was our fall Relief Society meeting - and Dawn is the R.S. Meeting Co-ordinator in our ward, so you know it was a great event!! We made school bags for the Humanitarian program of the church, so there was a school theme - right down to the cafeteria ladies who served up dinner. It was worth going just to see them in hairnets!!

Angela is moving away, so it was a kind of "swan song" for her - we will certainly miss her!!

Monday night was Porter's b-day - celebrated in fine style at Cherry On Top, the frozen yogurt place her in Mo-Town. Miss Isla is becoming the very vraiment party girl it seems!

And Porter was one happy boy to finally reach the big day!!

Sunday - 10/10/10 - the very happening 40th Birthday Bash for Bonny Brae!! The young people enjoyed congregating on the front porch for their meal.

And the teenage boys in the group loved playing Star Wars action figures with Harry W. and Porter.

The designated clean-up crew members were hard at work. Dad says Dawn's happiest when she's bringing order to things!! Mary always pitches in too!! And Dad feels like if he hasn't been in on the clean up, then the clean up hasn't happened!! (Me, I take photos!!)

The lovely Miss Ara, growing up and growing lovelier by the day!

Grandma T. gave Bonny a lovely piece of china from Grandmother Taylor.

The long tables are so useful for these Bolander gatherings - that always include ward members, neighbors, and family.

Opening the gifts! Always a hit with kids!!

More front porch action.

Harry had to work, but Dawn and kids made the trek.

40 candles - and the fire marshal didn't even bat an eye! By request, the cake was a "Stake Visitor's Cake." That was interesting explaining to the non-members present! But I think I did it justice!!

Great Grandma Terrill

Great Grandma Clayton

Dad with his "Terrill Women!!"

Ah, the happy pair - host and hostess with the mostest!!

The weekend promises some activity too - watch for updates!! (and pray for cooler temperatures!!)
