Beware the Ides of March!

Our traditional Ides of March celebration has not happened for several years - for several reasons.  When the Ides comes around, I have a bit of nostalgia for the event.  And then I think, well, I'm glad I'm not hosting said event tonight!

This is a photo of Harry F. in a middle school production of a show called "A Guy Named Bill." But it does like like it could come from a production of Julius Caesar, doesn't it??

The original Ides of March party - to celebrate Ronnie Horton's birthday - which happened to fall on the 15th of March.  Thus a tradition began.  Harry P. is in the foreground.  And Eliza's former bishop, Bishop Nelson Burton, is in the background.

Small world - even with Shakespeare!

The weekend that was!

We had so much fun on our Grandma's birthday weekend, Miss Esme, Grandpa and I, that I hardly snapped a photo - in fact, this is the only one I did take!!  Eve joined us Saturday afternoon - and here they are mining for treasure in the Grandma's Treasure Box!!
We saw Oz the Great and Powerful, had manicures, shopped and ate and watched movies - as well as playing with the American Girl dolls!  We girls do know how to have fun!!

We took Esme home and then enjoyed a lovely dinner at Chez Bolander - always a great place to eat.  Here she is in her new Websterville costume - she is one of the gentry!!

Friday night was the Annual Ides Fest - Bolanders, Terrills, Whites, as in Bill and Sandy, and a lone Combe made up the guest list.  But the Bard would undoubtedly have been tickled by our performances.

Some folks like to start clowning early!!

The director - directing, of course!!

On Wednesday night, Marjorie and I motored out to GH where my mom was honored at her ward's Relief Society birthday party.  A great meal - and each of the women they honored - I believe they were the older women in the ward - and Mom was the oldest - told long-ago Relief Society stories that were fun to hear!!

A good week - now to get ready for the next one!!

St. Patty meets Julius Caesar!!

Once again the Ides went off without too many hitches. It did rain, so I was unable to try my plan to have it on our faux stage in front of the garage. After the family talent show at Christmas, I was eager to do the Ides "on stage" but I guess it will wait for another year.

Some old-timers didn't make it, some "new timers" joined us, and the rest of us just had a fine time, like we usually do.

It was especially fun to have Jinny there with us!!

I didn't get a photo of Dad and Steve Plewe - his first time with us - and the first time we've seen him in several years - that was a treat too!

Until 2013!!

Beware the Ides of March!!

The celebration of the Ides of March is a long-standing Terrill tradition that has assumed many iterations over the years. Here's one from the early 90s - when Mandy and Erin joined our dramatic troupe.

This is from the 90's also - but later I think - since that looks like a tiny Ella there in front. Our usual fare was Caesar Salad and pizza from Little Caesar's.

From the first Ides of March party - the early 70s - when Dad and I dressed up in our Nicaraguan bedspreads.

We started having these affairs because Ronnie Horton's birthday was on the Ides of March - and it seemed to need a fitting celebration.

This was last year's celebration. It was held on the 14th so we went with a Pi Day theme. It was yummy.

A few years ago - 2006 I think.

Look for reports on this year's gala - it's on the 17th - so we are having a green theme - green chile enchiladas, green salad, lime sherbet - you get the idea.

But while you are out and about today, watch for wanton soothsayers and others of such ilk!

Beware the Ides of March!!

As I was doing the Ides invites, I noted that the day we were going to have it was actually Pi Day - you know, 3.14 - so I made the decision to break with tradition and have a different menu. We had three kinds of Shepherd's Pie, salad, rolls, Italian Soda and dessert pie: Lemon Curd, Blueberry, Pumpkin, Banana Cream, and Caramel Apple with vanilla ice cream. We also ate outside, since it was pretty balmy. We did that once before, and if the weather co-operates, it's the way to go.

We had some "newbies" too - Larry and Ginger joined us, and did Jenny and Allen.

The Terrill contingent was somewhat full - Bonny had to beg off and we missed their family!!

Portia was a kind of Pied Piper for the kids.

The Ides is actually Allen's birthday, so we serenaded him - and he had the male lead as Julius Cesar - did an excellent job too - Dawn said he had a radio announcer's voice!!

Of course our good friend Karan was with us - she who said so many years ago when I invited her, "I thought you'd never ask!"

Porter glued himself to Allen - and Jenny's camera!

Grandma Helen did not feel up to coming - so Ginger stepped in as the Soothsayer and did a commendable job.

Those Hoopes boys - yukking it up!

Jeff C. added musical background this time - it was pretty effective - may be a new tradition.

Harry glued himself to Janet and Andrew - the sword was a lot of the draw, but Andrew - who will be a new daddy this month - did a credible job of keeping Baby Harry focused!

Dad was an excellent producer/director. Tony-award caliber I would say!!

Not the best quality photo - but you get the drift!

Another curtain closes on the Ides Extravaganza at 428 - wish you could have been there!!

Another one bites the dust!

So the Ides of March came - and went - once more!! We often invite many - and often many don't come for whatever reason. This year everyone came - so it was a crowded - but very fun - affair. We especially enjoyed having the Bolanders make the trek! And it wasn't a work night for Harry F., so they joined us too.

It took me two photos to get everyone in!! And Karan D. pulled a Cinderella move and slipped out before we gathered for the group photo. There was tons of food too - this is turning into quite a feast - with some Mediterranean fare added to the usual pizza and salad of years past.

I think we had 35 people all together! Not a record for our house, but maybe an Ides record. Dad's thinking of doing it out of doors next year - in the front yard. We'll keep you posted.

Miss Isla enjoyed sleeping in various arms!!

All's well that ends well!

Happy Birthday Ronnie!!

March 15th is the Ides of March - and the Terrill family has always celebrated this occasion in the grand manner.

But we never would have started celebrating it if it hadn't been Ronnie Horton's birthday! So here's to Ronnie - shown above with a very young Bonny - we miss Ronnie - especially on the 15th of March!!

The first Ides of March party - 1970 (Eliza, note shot of your current bishop!!)

Last year's big event!!

Watch for post-event photos and details on this year's Shakespearean extravaganza!!

Not really as random as it seems

In honor of tomorrow's Ides Extravaganza, here's a shot from the festivities in 1991 I believe - or maybe '93 or '94?

One year we had the McGlones join us - a fine time was had by all.

And here's a shot from a YM/YW stake activity - Eliza was away at school, so that would be 2000? Anyway, Melanie is in this one - and she's home now and gave a great talk today in church.

Gotta love those Warner women!!

And here's a little shot of Hannah one time when she was ill - maybe she just needs Cosmo to make her better!!

So, it wasn't so random after all!!
