A Cubbing We Go!

It was Pack meeting week once more - and a wonderful time was had by all.  In fact, we are so busy having a wonderful time, we don't have time to take photos.  I need to designate someone as the photographer I guess!

We had an Easter theme - sang "Here Comes Peter Cottontail," did the Bunny Hop, decorated paper bags, had an Easter Egg hunt, had an Arrow of Light and Crossing Over ceremony, and gave out awards - that's Porter at the front of the line!!

I love Cub Scouts!

And next month is Pinewood Derby!!  Stay tuned!!

THe weekly news report!!

Last Sunday, Helen fell again and spent the afternoon at the ER.  She then went to a rehab facility in Glendora until Thursday, when Harry and Frances brought her home.  (Frances arrived Monday night.)

Grandma is in pretty good shape, considering everything.  She is in pain from her previous falls.  But she is getting by on fewer meds, so the dizziness has abated somewhat.  She was not eating well at first, but is eating better now, and getting back her strength.

But it will be a process.  She is getting support from Hospice.  She has friends from her ward who have come by to check up on her.  Frances is there and so is Susanne when she is not at work.  She has helpers who come on certain days, and Harry has engaged another one.

She has had visits from family members and others.  Harry pointed out that she usually smiles when she has visitors!

Tonight we had dinner together - well, Frances, Harry, and I did - and Helen enjoyed her dinner later.

More updates as they come - prayers and cards are welcome - and visits too, if you are in the area.  Calling ahead is a good idea.

We love you Grandma Helen!!

The weekend that was - and will soon be here again if I don't get hustling!!

A little entrepreneurial adventure for the Terrill kids!!

Harry W.'s pal was making loop bracelets and necklaces to sell too!

Perhaps Deacon's role as to supervise?  He might be taste-testing a cupcake though!!  (j/k)

Porter  rode around - maybe hustling customers??

Dad and Harry discussing something besides lemonade I'm sure!!

And Sunday Brian Furuya and his wife Kate and kids Daniel, James, and Elizabeth came from Flagstaff and visited our ward.  They came over after for lunch and we had a great visit.  Unfortunately that was the day Helen fell again, so Harry was involved all day with getting her taken care of so he missed the visit.  (He had been speaking in the Arcadia Ward when it all happened.)

We hope this coming weekend is a little less eventful on that score!!

"Beware the Ides of March!!"

Celebrating the Ides of March has been a long-standing Terrill family tradition - but it's not happening this year.  Too many complications.

But fond memories are in order - and maybe even a Caesar salad for dinner!

(The above is from a 1992 celebration, featuring Eliza as Julius Caesar!)

Carnegie Hall debut for Miss Ella!

Ella's high school choir performed at Carnegie Hall tonight.  Hope her mom videotaped it!!

Eliza and Hannah came up for the festivities - to say I wish I'd been there too is an understatement!!

Good job Ella!!

More Secret Stairs Adventures

We did another "Secret Stairs" hike today.  This one started at Via Marisol and Avenue 60 - just off the Harbor Freeway.  We have driven down that highway many, many times - never knowing what was off to the side!!

This adventure saw us walking on the bridge over the freeway - always fun - and a little scary for me!!  We started out in a town called Hermon - established in 1903 in the heart of Highland Park I think.  We went by the Ebell Theater too,  which was built in the early 1900's, and a charming outdoor venue called La Calebra that Harry said he went to once with Rusty to see Noah perform.

We also saw one of the oldest houses in Los Angeles - it wasn't much - but Harry could identify the features that indicated how old it was.  It's still in use as a regular house.

There were only about 4 sets of stairs - the most arduous were a set of stairs (140 steps) that went - nowhere!!  Apparently there had been homes above them once - but they are no longer - not even vestiges of them.  There goes the neighborhood!!

It was fun to discover Terrill Avenue!!  A nice street that loops around the town.

Wish we could pull these off weekly, but I'm impressed that we've done one a month for two months!!

(It doesn't take much to impress me!!)

Whirlwind Weekend!!

I flew into SLC on Friday night.  Maddy and her husband picked me up, and we went to Erika's for a lovely dinner Alice had prepared - she'd had her carpets cleaned, so we needed to eat somewhere else - they weren't dry yet!!

It was great to meet Maddy's husband Kyle!!

And to see everyone again!!  Alice and Dale are just back, it was fun to meet Hannah's boyfriend James, and I haven't seen Erika and kids in awhile!!

The purpose of my trip was attending the funeral for Joy's mom, Tressa Jensen.  Joy and I have been friends since we were children, and I have always loved her mom.  Tressa was almost 99 years old and had lived a good life.  It is always hard to say goodbye, but she was ready to go and reunite with many loved ones.

The funeral service was beautiful - talks and music that celebrated the life of a good woman.  Joy and I were college roommates and two other roomies - Pat and Marlene - also joined us.

As Marlene said, "Looks like you are the frontline now Joy!"

Flew back Sunday a.m. - and now it's another week at school!!

Life does indeed go on!
