Moving right along - 1993, part 1 - with some postcripts to 1992

Okay, so here we are folks - I go looking for specific photos - I think I'm actually getting something of a handle on the this gargantuan task that is the organizing of the Terrill Family Fotos - and find some I missed - some that I thought should be included - especially since lots of Kerksieks read this blog!! (they are, after all, honorary Terrills!)

To my way of thinking, there is something quintessentially California/Terrill/Kerksiek about this shot. A personal fave, one that can evoke fond memories of many wonderful summer days - why they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Zuma Beach, July 1992 - visits from the Kerksieks always included lots of beach time! And Joan was here that year too.

I can't remember if this was in one of the anniversary posts, but it should be - the way the family looked just before Harry left - the last family group shot.

"Hi, Mom and Dad! See you in two years!

And Harry headed off to Bulgaria - and sent us a photo of him leaving the SL Airport.

And this was one of my favorite Halloween years - Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and Tinkerbell - I remember being up late sewing and actually enjoying it - knowing it wouldn't be long before they would not want to have me make costumes for them. Age does bring some understanding!

And I can't believe that I forgot that 1992 was our 25th anniversary - on the other hand, having any anniversary on December 22nd can be hazardous -
there's usually a lot of other stuff going on!

Which is probably why, in early 1993, when Dad and I were chatting over breakfast and the LA Times after everyone was off to school one day, I read out loud to him an ad that featured some really low fares to Paris - and we said, "Well, we really need to celebrate our 25th anniversary in a big way - let's go!" And go we did - in March. I'm not sure where the pictures are of when we were gone - Bonny took some - she and Bruce did a babysitting stint and so did Helen - we were gone 10 glorious days - and had one suitcase between us!! They had some adventures while we were gone - one involved a ward talent show - and our pics from the trip are actually scrapbooked in an album of "Special Trips H and B Have Taken Together" that I started one year when they were having Scrapbooking nights at the ward.

Suffice it to say it was a grand adventure - ask to see the scrapbook sometime. Or better yet, let's do a family reunion in Paris one year!! And we will visit Beaugency - and the devil and the cat will maybe find us too!

"We'll always have Paris!"

And so let's get started with 1993!

In May of 1993, Dad and I, along with the "little kids" went along on the Adventurer Packin - Dad built a handcart that really didn't work all that well, much to his disappointment, but we seem to have no photos of it - too bad. And Eliza and I rode our bikes up there - you are impressed no doubt that I could ride a bike uphill. I am full of surprises!

Noah loved it - he said, when we had church up there - back in the day when they still allowed that kind of stuff - "Let's come to church here every week!"

I have no shots of Hannah, but I know Eliza enjoyed the hammock!

And Noah enjoyed all of it!

Noah's birthday in '92.

Eliza's birthday in '92.

T-ball used up our Saturdays - but it was fun.

Phoebe was in the Monrovia Day's Parade to advertise "Once Upon a Mattress," when she was appearing in it.

In one of her costumes - it was a fun production - and kind of got Phoebe into the whole drama thing.

An exciting event was Bonny's graduation from UCSB - love the lagoon setting for the commencement exercises.

An all time fave photo of Bonny - she was a real star that day - and a visiting Scottish professor called off her name - Bonny Brae Bolander - with the most lilting Scottish accent - we were thrilled - the Kerksiek kids were with us - I think Hester got sunburned!

The ward did a musical production, "Down By the Creekbank" and the girls had fun with that.

Here I am enjoying the show.

"A cast of thousands"

Not sure of the occasion for this shot, but it's one I love of Hannah - really captures the almost-8 year-old Hannah!

Eliza at 5th grade promotion - she had skipped a grade, so she was only 10 years old - and wouldn't be 11 until 6th grade was almost over - so I was not sure why I'd let them skip her!

Since some Cornwalls peruse our blog, here's a shot of Robbie giving a hug to Mrs. Montgomery. Mrs. Conte was Eliza's teacher.

These shots are "overexposed" but they capture Hester - the girls were at our house that year. We loved having the Kerksieks come and stay - Eliza or Hannah should talk about the "Barbie World" they built - or the adventures in the playhouse.

Here's Miss Hannah K. enjoying breakfast! And looking like she just got up!

Dad was forever taking pictures of the apricot tree - like lots of them - but we did love the tree - and the fruit - and the tree has died - so we're glad to have a beautiful memory - but we'd rather have jars of apricot jam or nectar!

A visit with Dad.

A Brownie Outing to Catalina. Click on it to see Eliza.

I must have taken Drammamine - I don't look sea sick! I'll bet you don't recognize Sharon Socha!

A beach outing with Noah - I think we took Phoebe and Emily Adams on this one. The pics with Phoebe are probably with Phoebe.

The same outing - as the years advance, I'm seeing that lots of the photos have been taken by certain interested parties who don't email them to me when I request it, so I often have to post "what's left in the files!" (They aren't bad pics, just not quite as interesting maybe?)

We went to Brian Head that summer - and experienced snow in July - and Eliza got altitude sickness. Donna was living in SLC at the time, so she and Betsy joined us for part of the trip.

We loved getting Harry's letters - he can't find the book of letters and pictures I saved for him - it may be at the shop and who knows when I'll get through all that stuff - moral here is, don't give stuff to your son until he has a wife who will take care of it - or at least know where to find it!

Anyway, I did find this one photo - he apparently butchered a sheep for a member - or maybe an investigator - Harry had some great experiences on his mission!!

The year was more than half over, but things were going to change drastically very soon - stay tuned for part 2!

Happy, Happy Birthday, Ara Dear . . .

So maybe the late night bloggers will see this on the 30th, but I want to be among the first to wish our lovely Miss Ara a very happy 11th birthday.

How well I remember the day of her birth. And the wonderful week I spent with her and Bonny as Bonny embarked on the motherhood adventure - and I got to hit the trail of grandmotherhood! It's been a great ride - and I'm looking forward to another great year - and hope you have a great year too Ara!!

(It was great seeing Bruce begin the fatherhood adventure too - but we womenfolk were a bit self-absorbed you might say!!)

Deep Thoughts

Annika: Mom, What are you doing?

Me: I'm cleaning up - I like a clean house.

Annika: But I like a dirty house.

Me: When you grow up, you can have a dirty house.

Annika: But when I'm big I will like a clean house. I like a dirty house for when I'm little.

Unfortunately she's not the only one in the house that feels this way.

Look at this!

I don't know if Harry just doesn't want to be a blogger - or if he really has challenges remembering his password, but he's all excited about this webcam stuff.

We are "signed up" so if you have the capability, come join us. (We can peruse the blog together.)

Where were you in '92?

A year after Bonny and Bruce's wedding, the "little girls" were still wearing their dresses - here they are posing in the backyard with the trapped raccoon - we got lots of those it seemed.

Pivotal events in 1992 included Harry's journey to the MTC and Bulgaria to serve his mission.

FHE found us holding a "mock" farewell - complete with a speech from Dad! (Note Cosmos' tail!)

Harry spent time brushing up on his piano skills - and practicing wearing a shirt and tie all day long!

Great to see Mayla, Lennie and Damond at the open house.

Our journey to Provo and the MTC included a stop in Manti to go to the temple there. When Dad and I were first married, we had no money, but we did have a paid for gasoline credit card, so we went to the Manti temple every Friday night. We love that temple.

And of course we visited the Salt Lake Temple.

Saying Good Bye at the MTC.

April found us celebrating Eliza's 9th birthday.

When it's Eliza's b-day, Easter is nearby. Here's Phoebe in all her 15 year old glory!

And visiting San Juan Capistrano for Eliza's mission project - which included her playing "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano" on the piano while the parents toured the mission exhibits.

And a Girl Scout trip that included Hannah and Eliza - we went to Santa Barbara on the train.

Camping at Ashland in July probably.

At Ashland with Nebekers, Frances and Grandma Terrill and the VAN! - for the Shakespeare Festival.

Here's Rye, crawling out of his tent. It was a funky camping spot - it was all grassy and sort of in the middle of town - not too isolated, but fun.

This looks like a birthday celebration - either mine or Noah's - or both.

T-ball was part of our lives then too!

These are getting out of order - this is Girls' Camp in '92 - Big Bear I think.

I was famous for my well-appointed tent at Camp - they even named an award after me - the Barbara Terrill Best Tent Award. It's probably been discontinued - especially since they haven't tent-camped for a lot of years!

A shot of Phoebe at camp - and I'm thinking maybe it was Cachuma Lake and not Big Bear.

We celebrated Harry's birthday from afar - and sent him a photo of the event. We got lots of great letters and photos from Harry all the time - but I put them into a book and gave it to him - maybe we can persuade him to do a post? (Or maybe the tides will reverse themselves??) His letters are even in the church archives though!

We went to Davis in the fall, to go to the temple with Paul and to attend his farewell. He went to Chicago.

This, however, is a summer shot - at Goleta when Leslie was here - and so was Betsy - so we all went to see Bonny, who was living in Santa Barbara.

Summertime visit from Alice - with Anne and Grandma Connie joining us.

Grandkids with Great Grandma Connie. See the suave, debonair Karl there in front!!

The Hartmans came to visit that year.

And we took a camping trip to Cachuma Lake - and got acquainted with Gemina - the crooked necked giraffe who just died recently.

Camping at Cachuma Lake.

Joined by Jenny at Cachuma. Phoebe had her permit and drove the van there - at least partways. It was a white-knuckle drive as I recall!!

Primary Christmas Party at the ward.

Christmas as the Monrovia 2nd Ward - or maybe we were still the Monrovia East Ward - anyway, this is Hannah with Lloyd Chrisinger - who was Santa for many years. Lloyd always called me "First Lady" when Dad was Bishop - as in "Hello First Lady, how are you today?"

The beloved Cosmo!!

This was the way the family looked as 1992 drew to a close. I think this was our Christmas card photo that year. It was a good year - and one to enjoy - some very busy and eventful years were ahead of us!!
