Oregon Visit - part 2

Once again it's late and I'm determined to get to bed at a somewhat reasonable hour, so these will be out of order!! Here we are in the car on Tuesday, heading for the Andina Restaurant and Nebeker's show at the Augen Gallery in Portland. Agnes and I were usually seat partners in the middle - I got pretty creative at keeping her somewhat happy without a binky - I will show you some of my techniques some time if you ask me!

Her hat from Sister Cornwall - she also has a cute one Alice sent from Bolivia which I neglected to photograph - maybe Phoebe will. Dressing Agnes is tons of fun - when we got there and I was unpacking - we stayed in Agnes' room - Henry said, "She really has a lot of clothes. It fills up both sides of the closet."

Speaking of Agnes' room - here are some shots of the cute details Phoebe and David have added. The very charming Strawberry Shortcake quilt from Grandma Tess.

And the charming dot border and wall hangings. Love the pink and green paint job.

Glitter letters from Joann's add a nice touch. Henry made the red and green ceramic wall hanging you see. Also there is a Mahonri Young print on the dresser - of a shepherd herding sheep of course!

Dad and Phoebe navigating the way in Portland - my navigating skills are close to nil, so I pretty much just did Agnes duty - that's more fun anyway.

At the authentic Andean restaurant - Andina - if you are ever in Portland, look it up! Dad was in heaven - I enjoyed seeing dishes in the flesh, pardon my pun, that I've heard about for years. And the owner, from Cajamarca, came to visit with us. A great meal and a very nice experience.

Dad has his hand on his glass of Inca Kola.

We went to Astoria, via Gearhart, where we picked up Sarah. We had lunch at the Astoria Cafe - another great eating establishment. Do you notice a focus on food here? The biscotti was to die for, thank you very much!

Henry in front of a fave painting of an old bike. There were some cool old bikes in the studio too.

The studio is on the river - Henry and Calvin were fascinated by the ships and the "pilot boat."

Standing in front of another work in progress. The studio was chilly so we didn't explore much, but it looked like a fun place to hang out.

Posing, of course, for a "group" shot - notice Calvin's pirate pants - when he heard we would see ships, he wanted to wear his pirate pants.

The "group" shot with Sarah! It's always great to be with the Nebekers - not even the cold, icy rain and wind could dampen our enthusiasm at being all together again.

Miss Agnes took a real shine to Nebeker - and the feeling was mutual.

Getting set at the information center at Multnomah Falls. Calvin is no flyweight - David got a workout.

Dad in front of the falls. An interesting history and lots of stories in the info center - check it out if you are ever there. My favorite was the one about the wedding party that was standing on that bridge behind Dad in Sept. of 1995 - a large boulder broke off from the face of the falls - the size and weight of a large school bus full of concrete - the "splash" was 70 feet high - and drenched the wedding party - I don't think they knew what hit them. No one died, but there were injuries.

Dad (Grandpa that is) and Henry hiked to the top of the 620 foot falls. The rest of us wimped out half way up.

Agnes was snug - but it was chilly!

The view from the top of the falls.

Monday night after FHE, Romney and Mary Sue dropped by after the Trailblazers game - it was great to visit with them - Romney is on the high council in the same stake with Phoebe and David. Romney and Dad served in the mission together - and Romney organized the Hood to Coast Relay team that Dad joined last year - and plans to join next year too.

Watch for more Oregon adventures then!

Thanksgiving with the Fillmores!

We got in late last night from Portland - too late to blog! And tonight we went to help baby Harry celebrate birthday numero uno and I thought, well, I will just dash off a post about our great long weekend in Lake Oswego with Phoebe, David and family. But Blogger is being difficult - so in the interest of time - I do need to get to bed - everyone talks about all the sickness going around and I'm feeling "peaked" so I think bedtime is in order. And I will just post the photos Blogger let me upload - and I will finish off tomorrow!

Here we are on Sunday, heading out for church - and Miss Agnes is wearing her fun Forever 21 duds that Aunt Hannah gave her! She is indeed a fashionista doing her mom proud!

We climbed Multnomah Falls - very beautiful - and very cold, I might add!

Saturday we headed for the OHSH aerial tram ride - it's a "working" tram that lots of tourists like to ride - a great view of the city of Portland.

It was nippy - here's Miss Agnes all bundled up but still charming the pants off of everyone with her smile!

We snuggled up to stay warm!

Here they are at one of the overlooks after you get off the tram.

There was a children's play area after you get off the tram. Henry quickly made friends and started a game of tag!

Saturday night Phoebe and I did some crafting - Phoebe wanted a tree skirt and we found a book with ideas for baby crafts, so we experimented with making felt shoes.

This pair was too big - and the other pair was too small - hopefully we'll get one just right!

This is Jinny's chandelier from Budd and Bamam - Jinny had it rewired and she washed and rehung it just recently - she was pretty excited to show it to us - and we enjoyed a delicious dinner with her and the elders who live with her.

Visiting with Jinny seems to have become part of our Oregon agenda - thank goodness!! The meal was great and so was the conversation - turns out the grandmother of one of the elders was someone we knew from our Centerville days!

The guys enjoyed the BYU/U of U game on Saturday. Phoebe and I shopped I think! We also hit Burgerville for seasonal shakes and sweet potato fries!

Henry is a great big brother!!

Calvin's a great big brother too - but loves his "mom" time!

Agnes is a very mellow young lady - who won't take a binky - a new experience for us! But like Phoebe said, she doesn't seem to cry any more than a baby who does take a binky!

Phoebe welcomes Dad to the Thanksgiving feast! (We flew in Thursday p.m. The tickets are cheaper and the lines are shorter - but all the parking lots were full in Burbank, so we were stuck with valet parking!)

My man Henry enjoying his drumstick! Phoebe had "brined" her turkey and David grilled it on the barbecue - and was great! As were all the trimmings!

Miss Agnes in her Thanksgiving Leopard print sweater and velveteen knickers!

Hanging out with Grandpa. Agnes looks sad - I think she was tired, but we always try for those "group shots" and some work better than others. Calvin wasn't keen on the idea either!

So more on Mulnomah Falls and the trip to Astoria to see Nebekers and the visit to Nebeker's show tomorrow!!

What were you doing a year ago today?

Baby Harry is 1 today! Has it really been a year already?!

Happy Birthday, little guy!!

9 trails report

bruce posted about his adventure this weekend here.

if you're interested.

Inquiry into Freedom and Order

Thought you would like to see the view from the outside in of the Augen Gallery (See Phoebe's post of around the first week of November).  We went this afternoon and it was great.  All of this after having a superb Peruvian meal at the Andina.  It has been a while since we have had aji de gallina, anticuchos, papas a la Huancaina, choclo, ceviche or yuca rellena.  Not to mention the Inca Kola (tiene sabor nacional) and chicha morada to drink.  Buen provecho!

And thanks to Agnes, Calvin, Henry, Phoebe and David for a great holiday weekend.

FYI

No pictures to post at this point, but thought I'd just catch the loyal readers of the Terrill blog up on things to date:

Matt, Eliza, Theo, Hannah, Robbie and others had a fun Thanksgiving celebration. Check it out here.

The last time we talked to Bonny, Bruce had 8 more miles to go on his 35 mile trail run in Santa Barbara. And they were feeling okay about their house in Malibu. The fires this time were quite a ways from them - and since there are burn areas around them, a fire that got that far would not have enough fuel. Since PCH is closed, Bonny's biggest concern was getting back to their house!

Harry and Dawn hosted a big crowd of family and friends, including Noah, Grandma Clayton, Donna, Mary, Sarah, Bill, Billie and Alyssa, among others. They had three sick kids the day before - who got well for the big day - and then Dawn got sick on Friday!! (and of course Harry had to work. Susanne came to the rescue we heard.) Donna told me that she was sick today. Something is going around!!

We've enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving repast with the Fillmores - and we've shopped, and eaten, and ridden trams, and had dinner with Jinny, and eaten at Burgerville - shake of the month - egg nog - yum!, and watched BYU beat the U, and watched House, and Dad and I babysat while Phoebe and David went to the temple, and Phoebe and I have been sewing and crafting and generally making a big mess but have been having a good time. We have trips to Multnomah Falls and Gearhart planned - and we've been taking pictures - which will get posted.

And now it's off to bed - fortunately their Sacrament meeting is a little later than ours - and we don't have any early meetings to attend!!

Hope everyone else's holiday has been grand!! We are thankful for all of our wonderful family members and great friends - whether they read the blog or not!!

1990 - Part 2 - The Wedding!

The first wedding in the family was a "big deal" and consumed a lot of time. But I had lots of willing friends who gave of their time, talents and anything else we needed! There are tons of photos - but most of them are "glued" into a book Bonny made for me. I found these however, to at least "fill in the blanks" for the anniversary posts.

Margaret gave Bonny a lovely shower. We did the "dress the bride in toilet paper" game!

Recognize Phoebe, Margaret, Sue C. and Kaye Burdette?

Bonny got decked out too. Here she is with Nicky Miller, Carol Thomas and Hannah's former Primary teacher who lived up on Heather Heights - and I can't remember her name!

My team was decking out Meriba Cornia!

Shannon Edginton did a family shower at Cheryl's house. Here's Bonny with Bruce's family - and me.

And here's Bonny with my side of the fam.

And Bonny with Dad's side.

Bonny went to the temple the week before the wedding - which was December 15th.

I spent a lot of time at the sewing machine - lots of help on the dress from Rita - and I don't even have a picture of her! Sue, Margaret and Tina made the girls' dresses for us. It was a big help.

Heading in to the temple.

Outside the temple after the wedding.

Family that was there - Diane, Doug, LaDenea and Heather.

The "going away" shot.

The reception was a week later - at the Foothill Building.

The lovely little flower girls!

Bill and family came.

Tom and Leslie were there - and they were a big help with behind the scenes details.

The formal family shot.

Noah and Andrew. Noah was a little upset with things - we had been telling him there was going to be a big party - and he didn't think the reception was much of a party!

Mary and her kids came.

And the Nebekers were there too.

The reception had been on Saturday night the 22nd - and so Sunday was the 23rd. I'd been pretty busy, so the house wasn't decorated, we didn't have a tree, and my shopping wasn't done. I did think all the poinsettias in the house made if very festive, however!

So we all gathered at our house after church on Sunday - Bruce's family too - so they could open their gifts. We ate up all the leftover wedding reception food too.

There were lots of presents to open - Cosmos was curious - just like the cat that he was!

And Hannah said, "Is this Christmas?"
