Rain, rain, go away. . .

We have not had an exceptionally rainy season. But we are having a very wet day today! And it's not some light, spring rain - it's a chilly wind that blows (could be an ill one too, I suppose.) Probably because Harry and Dawn have the roof off of their house. (I like to find rational reasons for things!)

All this leads to the publication of this hitherto unpublished photo of Charley, Jeanette, Mike, Sean, Jared, me, Bonny, Harry and Phoebe in front of the construction site that became the "Centerville House of Short Duration!" This photo is from 1978.

A construction site can say a lot about a lot of things. I will let this one speak for itself! (What you don't know won't hurt you in this case!!)

belated pictures

My friend Jared borrowed my camera with some film left in it from Christmas and it FINALLY got developed. So here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure. I'm a little disappointed that the film looks kind of underexposed... I don't know what happened. I don't want to talk about it.

Just me and Bob Dylan.

Ian says that Ara is a mini-me.

Where did her hair go?

Boo.

Toothy.

Umm... this one is just weird.

Come hither stare.

Oh, Poot.

Clownie.

Bruce is the only happy male in our family.

I'm still trying to decide if Phoebe's face is one of anger, or...?

Okay, there are a lot of pictures of Calv-o, but it's because he's so dang FUNNY!

I remember these ones... it's when everyone wanted to behave.

Not.

A Visit From Mike

Mike Clayton was here from Texas. As were Bill and Marjorie - Dawn's folks. So Donna and Mom came out with Mike and Bill and Marjorie came over and we all enjoyed breaking bread together.

"Lord, I'm 500 Miles from my Home"

The trek home Sunday was looong! Took about 3 or 4 hours longer than it should have. But part of the way was scenic and interesting. I should have started snapping shots of the colorful geological masterpieces sooner, but I didn't.

We hit snow and rain. And TRAFFIC. Maybe that's why I took pictures in the car. I crocheted. We listened to books on CDs. We ate all the food I'd brought - in descending order of preference. (The last thing we consumed was the box of low fat Wheat Thins!)

We did go to Sacrament meeting in Mesquite and heard a quite good talk on the importance of the fast. (It was high council Sunday.)

At least part of the scenery was new to me!

The Start of the Trilogy

I said the one after this would be #2 - here's numero uno. Why blogger wouldn't do them all at once is beyond me! When Eliza and Matt go to DC, I'm going to go spend a week under her tutelege and really wow all of you.

Meanwhile, here are some more shots - Eliza being escorted to the finish by Dad and Hannah - she could have made it alone, but it's much more fun with three, right? And the group sprawled on the lawn afterwards - this is fun, right?

Check Eliza's blog for more stats.

The Posting is to the Determined!

I was attempting to show more photos on the blog after this one, but the strange inner workings of Blogger would not co-operate - I tried it several times and gave up!

But I am not to be disuaded when I have a purpose in mind, so I work around the system - and this may be post #2 - whatever, here are two more shots of the race.

The Race Is, Indeed, to the Swift!!

We just got back from Moab where Matt, Eliza, Hannah, Karl and Harry the Dad (not to be confused with Harry the Dude) ran the Canyonlands Half Marathon on Saturday. The drive there was very scenic and geologically magnificent. Harry and I, who came via St. George, were listening to "A Crack in the Edge of the World" by Simon Winchester. It is about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The author was or is a foreign correspondent, but he trained as a geologist at Oxford. So he gave lots of geological background to the quake itself - which made our scenic ride educational as well! Talk about shifting tetonic plates - they were all around us! Color Country is indeed colorful.

We stayed in Green River - in a scenic Best Western on the riverfront! We had fun trying out the local eateries - no chains here! I enjoy my role as support person extraordinaire - I get to case out the town while the others are queuing up and running. I did get to the finish line in time to get a good spot for cheering and photo taking. (And I had time to get some cute Moab tee shirts!!)

Harry got first in his age division - and 299 out of 4000+ runners - not bad for an old guy!! Now we have "his and her" trophies for the year!! The others all finished in respectable times - I'm impressed - I couldn't run a block. Like Marcie always says, "If I had to run to save my life, I'd just have to give up."

The photos include before and after shots - I'm sure you can tell which are which. Phoebe's old roomie Sabrina is in one of them too. Check Eliza's blog for more stats!

And on the horizon - Boston, ta da!!

Chantilly Lace Had a Pretty Face

Before you hear it from someone else, like Mom or Dad, I'll announce that Matt and I have decided to go east, young man. We'll be relocating to the greater metropolitan area of VA-MD-DC sometime this year, probably near the end of summer. Neither of us have jobs yet, but we had to decide a location now so that Matt could apply to the right bar.

So, there you have it! It's not a permanent thing, at least not in our current plan. But for the next few years you'll always have somewhere to stay when visiting the mid-southeastern United States. (If that phrase sounds made-up, it's because it is. I know Virginia is considered Southern but it doesn't seem THAT Southern to me.)

And I hope we get to see you all this spring or summer. Anyone's invited anytime, and to either of our graduations in Salt Lake (5/12) or Seattle (6/9); otherwise we're planning on visiting CA sometime in the summer. Don't know when yet.

P.S. Re: my rather lame post title: Chantilly, VA is a suburb of DC. Not that we'll be living there, because we probably won't, but I couldn't think of any other relevant song lyrics (my favorite source for post titles) besides "DC sleeps alone tonight" and that seemed rather sad. Better lame than sad, in this case.

"Hi, Eliza. I'm Terrill."

So began a conversation I had this afternoon at work.

It was funny. Threw me off for a second.

Turns out my new friend Terrill's name is actually Terrell, but he pronounces it "Terrill."

Ha.

Beware the Ides

I was also aware of Nat'l Pi Day (for those of you who got my email), and today is just as special, as Mom mentioned.

I thought that I'd give an honorable mention to the fact that I get to see Julius Caesar performed in its entirety by people in real togas with real British accents at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre when I go to London! Kind of exciting. We get to see Romeo and Juliet the same night, so that'll be fun too. Sure, it won't be as authentic to me without Grandma T. playing the soothsayer... maybe she can make a special trip to London to join Lord Chamberlain's Men.

Et tu, Bruté?

Happy Pi Day!

How many of you thought of that today! (and tomorrow is significant too - but then all the Terrills know about the Ides of March!)

"Off to the races. . ."

We are gearing up for Moab this weekend - found some old (well, 2 years old anyway) race shots from St. George in 2004 and thought they could get us all in the mood. I'm dusting off my pom poms and charging up the battery in my camera. Hope it's warmer than it is here, or I may spend the whole time in the car with the heater on! I don't suspect there is much to do in Moab. But I will have a good book to read anyway.

"All the world's a stage . . ."

The annual Ides of March production went as planned tonight with a somewhat reduced cast - we have lot of pizza left over - and Karan D. brought ice cream sandwiches - so the freezer is full!

But we made up in quality what we lacked in quantity - two newcomers to the scene - Marcie Hoopes who did a very credible job as Marc Antony and Tai White, a respectable Calpurnia.

Harry had to work, the Bolanders had illness plaguing them, Karl declined, the Plewes had a conflict, as did the Coombes. But Grandma, Susanne, Marcie, Karan, Noah, Mike and Tai and your dad and I had cozy readers' theater. (We needed cozy since it's freezing cold out tonight!)

And Grandma T. was once again a formidable Soothsayer!

Snapshots of Relief Society

For the 1st Sunday lesson I asked 9 former Relief Society Presidents of Monrovia, Monrovia 1st, 2nd, and Monrovia East Wards to share a brief snapshot of their experience in the calling. I asked them to respond to Mosiah 18:8-11. It was inspiring to see all the many ways they responded.

I asked each to take 3 minutes, but it was more like 5 minutes, but it worked. We sang the new Janice Kapp Perry song, "When I Feel His Love" for our opening song, and "As Sisters in Zion" for the closing song.

Since we took 3 wards to make 2 almost 2 years ago, unity has been something of an issue. I thought this would help, and I truly believe it did.

The stories were great - ask me to share them some time.

where the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average

Did you guys know about this?

Dollmakers Malibu Style

Ara and Ella, with design assistance from Dad Bruce, made some great dolls - Ella had to do one for a class project. Ara had done the same project last year, so she wanted to do it again. Granny Babs supplied the buttons - I knew that old button box was good for something - and the yarn for the hair - look familiar Phoebe?

And here's the pix of Porter mentioned in the next post.

And Annika was Annika - delighting us all!

Fun at Granny Babs and Grandpa Bob's

Esme and Eve discovered the top floor of the playhouse. The kidlettes enjoyed angel food cake, strawberries and whipped cream. Porter said, "What's with all these women around here?"
