Yearbook

These are some old school photos of me - I'm not even dead sure I have them in the right order - I do know they are Junior High vintage. Don't you love how I still have the same waves and cowlicks?!

Guess Who???*

Look for the details. It's December of 1989. The bed will probably give it away. And the Grateful Dead sign!

*It's NOT Noah!

Another little contruction worker!

Here's Harry F. on the job at Smith Morehouse by Kamas - your dad was building a cabin for the Moores. It was probably 1975 or 6. We camped at the job site for a few weeks while dad was working.

I thought of it when I saw the picture of Porter on the job!

Other little known factoid photos . . .

Here is a never before published photo of Harry F. Terrill on stage at Clifton (actually in front of the stage after the performance of "A Friend Named Bill" - we not only didn't have a camera with a zoom lens, we probably were using Dad's old camera from his Photography class days at the U of U in the 70's) - I'll bet you are wondering what other secrets I have up my sleeve!!??

In truth, Harry did a good job in the that show - it was a musical and he sang throughout - he maybe was even the lead - and he sang well. It was April of 1986.

20 years!!

There and Back

We had a very fun trip and now we are back in the swing of things here at home. In IF Jake and Amy came to see us at Jeff's reception and we stopped in at Karen and Jeff's on the way home. Unfortunately I didn't surprise Eliza in person and we missed Amanda's sealing since it was smack in the middle of family pictures. I am enjoying the fact that we have so much family spread around that we get to visit when we travel. Maybe next time we'll stop in Reno and see Amy and Phil, but we were running short of time this trip. I'll post the rest of the trip pics on my blog.

"And the winner is. . ."

I was duly surprised tonight to be given the 2006 Golden Apple Award at the Founders' Day program. Especially because I was on the selection committee, and I thought we'd chosen someone else - someone I thought deserved it too!

I have a class on Thursday nights, but was persuaded to come to present an award to Beth Roth, my instructional aide, so I didn't think anything untoward was up!

You can see from the picture that I had a nice group of family there - they had them all troop across the stage - Dad said he wasn't sure what was expected of them, but I assured him that in years past all the family members do is troop across the stage!

It was a looong program, so Eve was pretty tired and a little sad - but not until after when we met backstage. Hence her tearful face. And Bonny and family was planning to come but they were all sick - we missed them but hope they all get well soon! (Harry was the photographer, hence he's not in the picture.)

When I was a kid, I always wanted a trophy - and never got one. So now I guess you could say it's a dream come true.

(It was Mormon Night at Clifton - Sue Cornwall got the Aslan Award - we had a Chronicles of Narnia theme - and Marcie Hoopes got the Silver Slate Award. Anna May, the office manager and church member, got the Honorary Service Award. And Brenda Carlson, a member of our ward, was in charge of the program. And Andy Hoopes was Mr. Tumnus and Lisa Carlson was the White Witch. Sarah Cornwall and Lauren Gutierrez got awards too. The church was well-represented.)

joke of the day, courtesy of the Webmaster

Joke: Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

"Don't Rain on My Parade!"

How many of you knew about Harry F.'s secret life in the drum corps at Clifton Middle School?

You never know!!

The year is 1985 - June.

For Esme with Love and Holler!!

This is totally my favorite photo of Esme - it is so Esme!!

There are enough grandchildren now that the details of the births are starting to blur together - so I appreciate all the reminders!

And I'm sorry you are sick Esme - be well soon!!

#4

Unfortunately I don’t have any new pictures of Esmé, so I’ll just have to re-post.

I remember very clearly the day that Esmé was born—not that it was that long ago, but it sticks out to me because I was in CA for the week because BYU got one week off during the winter Olympics in SLC. I spent a few days at Bonny’s and watched the kids when she went to the hospital. I was around for Ara’s, Ella’s, and Esmé’s births, but for all the other little kids’ I’ve been out of the state or country.

After Esmé was born, while we were waiting (for what, I don’t remember—maybe it was after dropping off the girls so they could visit with B&B), Mom and I drove around and around Thousand Oaks looking for something good to eat for dinner, but didn’t find much. We were in the Acura, probably. And I think we sort of got lost. I ended up getting a Snickers or something from the hospital gift shop. I remember telling Matt all about it when I got back and thinking the drive was hilarious and typical of Mom and me. (Matt and I went on our first date about 2 weeks before Esmé was born.)

I also remember going in to see Bonny and noticing how absolutely radiant she was, and I was struck at the time that it was because of/amplified by Esmé's birth. I’m not saying that to be gushy or nice or anything. I haven’t been around that many brand-new moms, but I remember just thinking how beautiful Bonny was. Is.

And Esmé too, of course.

Happy Birthday!

More Melissa!

Discovered I did indeed have more pix of Melissa - in St. George in 1989 -Gotta love Eliza's hair!! (And her madras sundress!)

Happy Day again Melissa!

Happy Birthday Melissa at BYUI!!

Didn't know how else to get in touch with Melissa - hopefully this will find her.

I'm sure I have other pictures with her in them - but this is the one I remember the best - it was taken at Scott and Shelly's wedding in December of '87!

Hope you have a happy day and a great year!!

Love, Harry, Barbara and Noah

"Leavin' on a jet plane . . ."

I am enjoying going through all the old pictures - I do get distracted though - as does Dad - we must be getting old - we think it's fun to talk about the "old days!"

This was summer of 1971 - and Dad was leaving to go to South America with the Utah Symphony - Bonny and I went down to California for most of the time. He was gone about 6 weeks.

Where's Robert?

Found this picture at Grandma Clayton's, and no one seemed to know what it was. So I did a little sleuthing - that is I looked at the way someone had written "Robert" at the top and figured it was my dad.

Then scrutinized the photo for him - obviously it's a school pageant of some sort - Betsy Tacy would know!!

Anyway, I found him! And I did it by recognizing his distinctive hairline.

He is the boy behid the cross - it is right in front of his face.

I wonder why we didn't have this around when he was alive so we could ask questions?

We just have to conjure up our own scenarios now.

Moral of the story: Identify photos with details!!

Since Dad is such a Sweetheart -

Here's the photo from the original Mother Martha ad - and the one I made up for Dad in 1980 - that was confused with the Valentine I made him.

I made Dad brownies when he was in the LTM - and left them in the Y Center locker he had willed to me in his absence. Th box had some painting of an old woman on the top. And then I sent him an "ad" for them while he was on his mission. I tried scanning the ad, but it's old and faded.

In 1980, I think I gave him brownies as a birthday or anniversary gift - and made up a new box.

Things were different in 1965 - missionaries in the LTM roamed all over Provo and the BYU Campus - I saw him several times - always a thrill - still is!

Happy Valentines Day

Here's an historic document from the family archives: the first valentine I received from Mom after we were married.

The Weekend Winds Down

It's been fun having everyone here - we're hitting the racetrack again tomorrow a.m. Don't you wish you were here? (We wish you were here!)

Bathing Beauty?!

We enjoyed having Bonny and Bruce's girls here for the weekend - Ella was looking at Dad's scrapbook and thought this was a picture of her mom - she said "It's my mom and she won't let us have a two piece bathing suit!" She was a bit chagrinned!

For the uninitiated, back in the day, most 2 piece suits were plenty modest - there weren't even rules against them at church events!!

This is taken in Mexico in 1969 - and this is "the only picture that will ever be published of me" in a bathing suit! (See Phoebe's blog!!)

Latecomers to "Le Petit Dejeuner"

Esme is a sleeper-inner - I can relate to that! (And there were certainly others in the houseold sleeping in - at least one other anyway!)

La Petite Dejeuner

Here we are at Grandpa Bob's and Granny Babs having "ze Frainch toast!"

The Bolander girls are having a giant sleepover at our house - and French toast was on the menu!

Eat your heart out all you folks standing in line outside Le Roys!

Watch for more exciting adventures!

My little contribution

I feeli like I need to contribute a photo of some sort, and since I don't have a scanner, I can't contribute old pix.

So here's one of Annika's asymmetrical face - chewing some gum. Posted by Picasa

fire in the disco?

So, I know that I'm really bad with keeping up with news lately, but I was looking at the front page of the Daily Universe and I noticed the huge headline that said that the Santa Monica mountains are burning up..? I know that the DU tends to post old news, but I hadn't heard anything about this. Bonny and Bruce? You doing alright?

Fashion Faux Pas???

Here is the pentultimate fashion statement from our own B.Brae and Company. Her leisure suit - lovingly made by Grandma Clayton - was actually quite stylish - she got lots of compliments. And it was serviceable and low-maintenance.

Harry's plaid shirt matched Dad's - but someone stole Dad's out of his truck at a job site. He was pretty unhappy about it. Grandma C. had made the matching shirts too.

My shirt was actually quite stylish too. It was crinkle cotton - which was not on the scene in the U.S. just yet - I had bought the shirt in France when I was in school there. I think I literally wore it out - I really liked it a lot.

All this fashion action took place at the Rock House in Centerville in 1974 - a good year for polyester!

Guess Who???*

This is to alert everyone to the relatively new daily feature on my personal blog - I will be posting random photos from my rather extensive collection of old pictures of family and friends.

I apologize in advance for the rather poor quality of some of them. They are fading rapidly in some cases. Although I'm not sure why - they never see the light of day - they are buried in boxes!

In spite of their sometimes poor quality, graininess, blurriness, odd composition, etc., they usually always can be depended upon to bring back a memory!

This feature is called "Daily Fave Foto."

*Most of you reading this probably won't have guessed that the above is a photo of Linda Rich, Andrew's mom, in her prize winning get up as Dolly Parton at the ward Halloween party in 1983 or 84. I wanted to get one that would be hard to guess - and eye-catching!

Subsequent photos will be more easily recognizable!!

Oh, hey, this is fun!!

Friday Night at No Future!

Dad and I are still amused at the name of the venue - but we went again tonight to see Noah perform.

He did a duet with a friend that was pretty cool - we liked the harmony. It was a song the young man had written - but I don't remember the title - maybe they didn't say what it was.

Noah also had a new song he's written that is as yet untitled. It was clever and fun to listen to.

The Pete Seeger classic, "Study War No More," provided a rousing end to the set.

One Last Grandpa Terrill Shot Before the Day Ends

One thing about sifting through old photos - it can really go on and on - but it's a lot of fun - and a real day-brightener!

This is from one of the last hunting trips Harry Dad took with Pop.

One Last Hurrah for the Birthday Boy!!

Before Grandpa Terrill's birthday ends, here's a memorable photo of Grandpa with Jim, Frances and Harry.

It's been heart-warming to reflect on his life - and the stories are priceless! And so too is the feeling that we all share in this great legacy. Thanks to everyone for sharing!

So, where's the cake and ice cream?

Happy Birthday Grandpa Terrill - and Happy Groundhog's Day to the rest of you out there in Bloggerland!!

I don't want to stay up until midnight - since Grandpa's b-day and Groundhog Day are on the 2nd - but do want to spend a moment thinking about Grandpa Terrill and what a great influence he was in all of our lives.

How wonderful to know that we will be able to enjoy that influence forever.

Happy Day Pop!

The Wedding Extravaganza of 1967!!

I'm spending far too much time on this blog tonight - but I have had requests in the past for this photograph - and thought there might be more than a few of you who would enjoy seeing it. I myself wonder how I ever got that thin!!

A picture is worth . . .

Now that I have discovered a veritable treasure trove of pictures from the days when I first got a digital camera - back before Y2K even. (I didn't know your dad had them in the computer.)

Anyway, I think I can dredge them up and think of funny posts to go with them. Might brighten up someone's day!!

This one is not so much hilar as evocative - it evokes a time around here when things were a little crazy and I don't think I stopped enough to smell the roses. (Dad was Bishop, I was teaching, I was going to school, I was YW President, there were 3 kids at home and 2 in college.)

Be sure that you all stop and not only smell the roses, but take a photo and journal your thoughts and feelings - you will not always remember everything!
