Officially the First Day of Vacation

Wow - what a great morning. Our kids slept in. I got up at 6:30 to work in the office (invoicing!!!!) Now we are having a playmobil extravaganza. ALL of our playmobil is spread out on the dining table and surrounding flat surfaces. It's quite a party here. we've decide to make a town. I'll keep you posted - maybe we'll name it.

Marathon update

The update is that training has stopped for the time being, due to my idiocy. As in... I fell down my stairs about an hour ago. So, huge bruise and swelling on my right knee (trouble knee), bruise and scrape on my left elbow, and scrapes on my right foot. One good thing about falling is that I killed some huge bug by landing on it. Funny thing about falling was that my roommate Sandra walked out as I'm laying down in the garden and says, "There's no step there!" Thanks, girlfriend. Also, I was holding my computer and dropped it. It was a tough Sunday for me.

Anyway, I've been busy with Mr. DB. Phoebe called me yesterday as I was running errands in a car with manual transmission... my first time alone with stick!! Crazy. I only stalled once because the gearshift got stuck in 2nd. And... I've been doing 12 hour days with that interning madness, and working in between there. Good to be paid. I worked a pool party last night, and I realized how great the DFC was. They actually have rules and stuff. Also, they don't allow pool toys... BYU provides them. For how much they worry about liability, they're pretty dumb with pool rules. Oh well. It pays the bills.

I'm out. I'm going to go nurse my wounds some more.

You start to get nervous when you see how easy it is, yet way too many people try to put in on backwards.
Anyway, it was a nice tradition. The Fiesta afterward was a big hit. Especially the chocolate fountain. Mom even learned how to play foosball. Hannah is still bitter that I beat her repeatedly.
Thank you to those who came and to those wish that they could have come.
In the picture you can see how happy Calvin is. Turns out he had an ear infection and thrush. If I put it in perspective I have to be amazed at how well he was behaving under the circumstances!

This is what the Fillmores have been up to. You should have seen Henry. He had paint all over himself. The Boston marathon T-Shirt fell victim to the paint as well. So glad to have that project finished. David, Jason and his helper worked from 8:30-2:30 and got the whole thing taped and sprayed. Unfortunately it took David another entire day for the trim, but what can I say, everything needs contrast!

Roll Out Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

Today is June 22—the second day of summer. Don’t worry, I won’t chronicle every day of summer. This post is mostly just to point out that 1 month from today is the big Terrill Disneyland soiree. I’m wondering if anyone knows how many people are planning to attend that—Harry Terrills, Jim Terrills, Fortners, etc. Matt and I are planning on it. We’re also going to Disneyland next week with Matt’s family—hadn’t planned on that initially, but it looks like we’ll be going twice in one month. I’m pretty excited, since I haven’t been in 5 years. And it's been longer than that since I've been on Space Mountain. Yippee.

Anyway, so I was checking out disneyland.com to see if I could find any group rates or anything. Turns out you have to be a “qualified non-profit organization” to get discounts, which you may have known, but I didn’t. So does terrills.blogspot.com count as a qualified NPO? I say it does—Disneyland probably wouldn’t agree. Apparently regular admission is only $56—I thought it would be much more than that. So, not bad. Maybe you administrator types have already figured this all out.

Second item of business: Matt and I are driving down on Friday for Matt’s family’s reunion in Newport Beach. That’s the day after tomorrow! How fun. We’ll be in So-Cal for 9 days total. It’s kind of going to be a jam-packed week—we’ll be staying in Newport for 5 days—but I really want to see everybody: Mom, Dad, Noah, Bonny, Bruce, Harry, Dawn, kids—okay, and Karl too—this means you. We’ll be in Monrovia on the weekends, so obviously we’ll see the Monrovia people automatically but Bolanders, I want to see you guys too. I guess I can just call and figure this out. But I’m so blog-addicted I need to blog everything before I do it.

So yeah. I’ll talk to you people soon. We’ll be back in the Golden State after 6 months’ absence. I know I missed you, California—did you miss me?

Summer Solstice

I just noticed that it is officially summer! We should have a celebration of sorts - or should have had one last night at midnight I suppose!

I am enjoying the first day of summer! I am doing nothing and I am enjoying it immensely! I love a quiet, empty house - especially when I don't have time constraints (at least not any external time constraints - I have many internal ones, of my own making, that I am choosing to ignore!)

Enjoy your summer day!!

Working girl

Okay, not THAT kind. Get your mind out of the gutter.

I got a job! Finally! I'm going to be an on-call lifeguard at the dorm pools. And I already have some days lined up to work.

Sweet!

Hear, hear!

I feel like I have to tell people that I've posted on my own personal blog. And if I remembered Eliza's instruction about links, I would do that right here. But I don't, so I won't! But I am coming right along, technoligically speaking, so I don't feel inadequate. (But ask me again after I forge ahead with my two online classes!)

Speaking of online classes, I think they are highly overrated and less than satisfactory as a learning experience - at least for me, so far!

I've Made Charts and Graphs That Should Finally Make It Clear

Matt sent me this link earlier today—templates for Excel spreadsheets. I don’t know why I love charts and tables and lists so much. I just do. I like controlling things. I LOVE planning things.

And even the dopiest dope (that is, me--at least when it comes to Excel) could keep track of or plan whatever they wanted with some of these templates. It never occurred to me that I might want to keep a dinner party journal or a pet health log. But someday I might. So I’ll keep these links handy.

Mom and Dad might like the bathroom remodel cost calculator. Maybe Mom could use the hall pass log.

Okay, I'm having way too much fun with this.

Announcement

Just wanted to make an announcement. A very important one.

I went to the dentist today for the first time in exactly 4 years—the last time I went, I was 18 and the dental assistant thought I was 13. Nice. Anyway, I’ve been very nervous about today’s visit, since I didn’t want to break my perfect record. That’s right folks, never had a cavity. I was especially nervous since I didn’t really start drinking soda until college, which obviously would work against me now. Although I’ve cut back in recent months.

The verdict is in (or is it out? I never remember): 22 years old, and still no cavities.
happy tooth

That’s what I’m talking about.

Although, bursting with pride, I told a guy I work with about my cavity-free teeth, and he said, “I never had a cavity until last year” (he's 27). We shall see.

Congratulations! You won the item!

actually i won the items (plural). I am now the very excited owner of all the ginghams paper dolls. that's 16 boxes (unopened!!) and some sticker books and some books of paper dolls. mom is probably the only person in the family who knows who they are. they are 4 girls -Carrie, Becky, Katie and Sarah - set in the turn of the 20th century. they were a 70's thing. i also won 3 sets of sunshine family paper dolls. needless to say, i'm having a bit of a walk down memory lane.

i am being careful not to become an ebay junkie. they were divided into 3 sets and all 3 bids ended right after each other - i was soo stressed out. what a high.

okay - now time to find a spot for them.

out of the mouths of babes

this morning while esme' was having her bath she banged her head on the faucet.

i told her, "you gotta watch that faucet".

then she started singing "follow the faucet, follow the faucet, follow the faucet, he knows the waaay"

Early Morning Reflections

I woke up early - and it was a Saturday!! It's a good thing summer is coming so I can get out of the habit of waking up early!! Anyway, I thought of how 30 years of public school involvement, at least on a personal level, had ended this past week. So I leaped out of bed - metaphorically speaking that is - and wrote down my thoughts - you may view them on my blog.

My blog isn't visually very interesting - I will try to change that - so I don't think it gets checked all that often - I forget to check it myself - so I just wanted to give you all the heads up - because you're all mentioned in it - by name no less!

Hey, hey, hey!

I couldn't think of a good title so I had to settle for a lame one.

I updated the Backbone thing with what Bruce sent me. There's a link on the sidebar (over there -->)

new email

well, lovely karl sent me an invite to join g-mail and i am stressing out on what my new address should be. should i go all professional and sophisticated and do my plain name? (although i have that option w/ the business account) or should i get creative and very witty? any ideas?

Get ready!

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

Because Hannah will be coming home for a brief visit on June 15th.

Woo hoo! Start booking appointments now. =D

Granny Babs Strikes Again

To all the faithful fans who have checked my personal blog and found it lacking in new material, there is a new post - I vowed to at least post monthly - sort of like my vow to write in my journal at least weekly. Why does it take so long to do things we want to do?

At any rate, my old roommate Joy inspired me by sending back copies of letters I had written to her - some were about 35 years old! I didn't sound too bad either. One of these days I will write a book!

Ch-Check It Out

As the Beastie Boys would say.

Okay all, here's where I show off my mad skills, or in other words, my impressive ability to procrastinate doing schoolwork. First I decided to make a Web page out of the spreadsheet.

And then I realized it's probably easiest for everybody if I just let you download the spreadsheet.

Either way, there you go. Liberty and spreadsheets for all. If there's a segment you REALLY, REALLY want to run (or even just "really, really" want to run), then let Bruce know. Or you can let me know, I guess. Let somebody know. How about you let Bruce know, and he can be Organizer Man, and then I can update the page with people's names in the "Runner" column if you guys want.

Personally I'm all for the 5-mile range or so (or shorter distances broken up, if need be), and hey, who doesn't like flat/downhill terrain...but we'll see how great I feel once the bruised lump on my leg goes away and I actually start running for real. I'm thinking by July 25th I'll be unstoppable, but that's because I'm an optimist.

That's all. Happy June 1st!
