Monday night Bruce and I and 3 friends from our ward went to see Israel's band, Blind Pilot. They were opening for Gomez at the Wiltern. I had never been to the Wiltern. I thought about it and I have never been to House of Blues either. I think I've been to every other music venue in L.A. They are great on CD and awesome live. They do a great show. They played White Apple, an unreleased song Sarah told me was one of her faves - and now I know why. Beautiful song. And they ended with my fave We are the Tide (also unreleased - so I listen to it on you tube). Those drums are wonderful.
Israel was so kind - he texted me after the show and we got to go backstage and visit. They have a great band. Everyone is very nice and they all seem like they are really enjoying what they are doing. They are playing in SLC tonight and heading to Lollapalooza after. That's got to be pretty cool.

Brush with Awesomeness
Hey all -
Nebeker's son, Israel has an awesome band, Blind Pilot.
I love this song, in particular.
They are getting a quite a bit of press which is cool. They are at SXSW this week. Links here, and here.
They were also on Carson Daly.
They also have a MySpace page and a Facebook page and all manner of pages I would think. Anyway - pretty cool.

Shameless and Questionable Plug
Can I introduce to you the new rage in our ward? MySignUp.com. It is so handy. Especially for a ward like ours. Our relief Society communicates by e-mail a lot. In the last 3 weeks we have had 3 sisters have babies. This has been an excellent way to share info (esp. when was in the hospital for 10 days) and online meal sign-ups has been a life saver.
We don't think it costs - so far it hasn't charged the girl who started it - even though the site says it's $3 per applicant. If any of you have more experience with this - I love some more info.

No News
Is GREAT news.
The fires are pretty much contained (in our neighborhood). And our house was spared. Actually all the houses in our canyon were spared.
And I have to thank you all for your kind comments and prayers. What a stressful couple of days. Now we get to unpack everything and put it away - maybe tomorrow.

Bar report
Sorry these are so late!!
A week ago today, Matt was sworn in to the bar of the state of Maryland. He sent in the paperwork to be waived into the D.C. bar early last week as well so that should also be finalized soon and he will be licensed to work as an attorney in both Maryland and D.C.
This picture is a little deceiving; there were quite a few women who were sworn in.
We left Theo with a friend and made the trip to the state appellate court in Annapolis (thanks Brenda, not that you read this but thanks anyway!). It was fun to have a little afternoon date and to mill around with the other candidates and their friends and family. Matt milled with the candidates; I milled with the friends and family. I made friends with a girl whose cousin was also getting sworn in--she had the cutest 6-month-old girl I've ever seen. I almost wish I had taken a picture, she was so cute!

I will not be including any pictures of myself because I was having a not-so-good hair day.
The ceremony was very nice and the judges gave pithy and funny commencement-like remarks as well as some interesting info about the history of the Maryland state bar (it's a long one! Like 400 years long). We wish you could have been there!
Here's Matt signing the book of sworn-in attorneys, a tradition that also goes back to the 1600s. That's a lot of books.
If you would like to see the webcast of the swearing in, you can go here and download the 12:45 p.m. session. (As far as I can see you can't stream it.) It takes a couple of minutes to download and is 40 minutes long, but here's some timing if you do want to browse through it: The walk-in of the candidates starts at 9 minutes and lasts about 1 minute. The justices walk in at 14:30 and that lasts about 5 minutes. The "commencement" speech which is about 3 minutes long starts at 19:00. At 23:30, Matt says his name (you need to turn it up to hear since none of the candidates have mics). At 26:30 one of the judges gives a little talk and then at 37:45 is the swearing in/oath which all of the candidates recite together.
Also, Matt is in the second row near the middle.
We are so proud of Matt and his MANY accomplishments, not the least of which has been completing law school and passing the bar exam!

Big News
Matt found out yesterday that he passed the bar.He worked very hard and I was not surprised at all. We're so proud of him!
