The things you see in Monrovia!

Harry was at Home Depot and saw this White Heron on the wall, and then it flew away.  There is a wash at the side of the store, so he drove over there to see and then took these pictures.

 

When he looked up "Great White Heron," he read that their native habitat is Southern Florida and the Caribbean.

Either this is not a Great White Heron, or it's a Great White Heron that has strayed!!

Either way it was an impressive sight.

A day in the life . . .

Today was Bailey's last day of student teaching - and her birthday!!

It seemed to be the perfect reason to have a party!!

We "partied" all day long!! (Actually, we just had a little celebration for each class throughout the day, so it 's not quite so decadent as it sounds!)

I gave all the students note cards and instructed them to write a note to Ms. Porter telling her the one thing they will remember most about their experience having her as their teacher for the last 10 weeks.

One rather short boy wrote "I will remender that you are the tallest teacher I ever had!"

Another boy wrote, "You are a very nice and kind teacher. Not that Mrs. Terrill isn't."

Bailey did an outstanding job - I will miss her - and the students will miss her too. It has been a growing experience for both of us.

It's good to know that we are always learning!

(And yes, the box contained an apron I made her. Two boys said to Bailey, "Did Mrs. Terrill make that?" When she said yes, one said, "But it looks like what you buy in a store.")

Funny how looking "store bought" is a compliment!!

And the plate had pumpkin bread - a big hit. I never cease to be amazed at how hardly anyone doesn't like pumpkin bread!

Only in Downtown Monrovia . . .

do you stand at the red light and hear someone shout "Mrs. Terrill, it's Mrs. Terrill!"

Turns out some people are in town for the 20 year reunion of the class of 1989 - and so here we have La Vesta Flucker, someone named Jenny I think, Wendy Dequer, yours truly, and Tammy Jackson - our old neighbor!!

The girl Jenny something wasn't sure if she knew who Bonny was. So Tammy said, "Oh, you know her, she was in everything, always bringing sunshine in!" I thought that was a nice tribute. Harry didn't remember La Vesta until she indicated she was Damien Flucker's little sister. And of course he did know Wendy. And remembered Tammy when she talked about being our neighbor.

I was on my way to the Krikorian to see Where the Wild Things Are with Harry, Dawn and fam.

The Town That is Monrovia!!

So, Wednesday was National Walk to School Day - so I walked to school - and walked home too.

And on my way home, I discovered a darling little shop that has just opened up next to the karate studio on Foothill. It's an apron store!!

They also do alterations and custom sewing. Their apron selection is quite lovely and reasonable - to my way of thinking anyway. And they are delightful women - they are sisters from Montreal - they immigrated here 30 years ago - just when we came!! And their dad used to own and operate Gem City Jewelers. He has since died and that store and Boxx Jewelers have both closed.

And one of them lives by the Heslops - went to school with Connie!! I love the small world that is Monrovia!! And I know you'll want to pay a visit when you come.
