42 years of wedded bliss - and all it entails!

Isn't life full of ironies?? Harry has not been that busy all year - so today, our 42nd anniversary - he's sitting at the job site waiting for some guy to show up!! And my car is in the shop. But our tree is up!

We have never been able to go to the temple on our anniversary - because in the past, the temple has been closed for a Christmas break. This year it is not closed - so we figured we'd head out, do a session, have lunch at Santa Monica Pier (in honor of the lunch we had there 42 years ago!!), and then hit the Getty - which we've never visited!!

We have spent past anniversaries taking "get aways" to places like Pasadena and Santa Barbara (don't laugh until you've tried it!!) Did our Christmas shopping, went to movies, visited places we'd always thought we wanted to visit.

So, the Getty may wait until another day. But we will undoubtedly make it to the temple in time. And in the time honored tradition of those who get married before Christmas, we will be doing some Christmas shopping too.

But hanging out with Harry is the best way to spend time - any day of the year. When he was on his mission, I waited anxiously each week for the mail to come. Over the years, I have waited anxiously/impatiently/even patiently for him to get home. Today will be no exception.

It's good to have things - and people - in life you can depend on!

The Lone Poster strikes again! (Hi, Ho, Silver, and away! Say que mo sabe, who was that masked man??) (pardon my Spanglish!!)

So, let's just say that I'm a little - make that a lot - behind in my Anniversary Posts!!

It doesn't look real good for me to be wrapping them up anytime soon either.

But here's a little teaser for the summer of 1997, which is next on the agenda.

And speaking of Monrovia High - which we weren't, but Hannah and Eliza did basketball there in the summer of '97 - Coach Higgins is retiring, as is Mr. VanOrden. And Coach Garrison is no longer the football coach - and they didn't hire Fil Lujan to fill the post - he went out for it - but they hired someone from West Covina. And Jean Young and Marney Davidson are retiring too. And Mr. Dagne is retiring from Clifton. As is Mr. Wenzelberg. But some other old names from Clifton are not retiring!

And I do feel like the Lone Poster - if Eliza hadn't covered Boston I would have had an exclusive byline. (Which I do not aspire to!!)

It's a tough job - someone has to do it!

Terrill Reunion - 1997

July of 199y found Frances and Dee in charge of the family reunion. And we certainly didn't have to travel far - we went to a park in Orange County!! There are 25+ pictures that follow - with little or no commentary - click on them for a better view. If you were there, you probably remember it. If you weren't we missed you!!

Everyone wasn't there, and we missed those who weren't, but it was a nice time - I have fond memories. Especially the memories of a relatively short car ride to get there!!

Summer Fun in 1997

Summer 1997 is extremely well-documented, at least photographically speaking. Quality of said photos is somewhat uneven, shall we say, but the quantity is more than sufficient! One of the problems is that the photos I am pulling from have been pretty well picked over - what' s left is what Phoebe, Eliza, and Hannah didn't want!

And I scrupulously recorded all the YW stuff - and then picked through it to make little photo journals for the girls as they left YW! But you can get the "big picture" anyway!!

Phoebe was life-guarding and giving swimming lessons at the Monrovia Pool.

And Noah was taking lessons there too. The Monrovia Pool figured in our summers in a big way for many years.

Noah trundled along in the Scouting ranks.

And enjoyed his role as an honorary Young Man!

YM/YW beach parties were de rigeur - and the van was an integral part of most of what we did!! Is that Eliza? Or Hannah? Maybe they look more alike than I think - except when they are standing next to each other!

This is definitely Hannah - recognize the towel??

This Achievement Day Girls activity must have been in May - since Rachel is there - and she was 12 in June.

Ara was getting bigger and more fun to play with all the time!

This was the awards assembly in June - at Clifton - Hannah was Outstanding 6th Grade Girl that year.

Noah and Dad took a trip to Utah together - on a plane no less! May have been Noah's first plane ride.

This was some kind of celebration - I think a wedding reception for one of my Aunt Anne's kids - but I included it for the shot of Great Grandma Connie - it was nice that all of you got to at least spend a few years with our beloved Grandma Connie!

I think Youth Conference, Girls' Camp and the Terrill Family Reunion will each need their own post! Will we ever get through 1997?

All I can say is, I'm looking forward to getting to 2005 - when my photos are finally digital!

The highlight of 1997 was definitely Ara's birth - and I would have been content to just be a grandma - but we did have other things that took up our time.


Dad was still Bishop, Eliza was in Young Women too - and Hannah would be turning 12 that year. Noah was sort of an honorary "Young Man" because he went along most of the time too. I was teaching at Wildrose, taking classes at APU, so it was nice that we spent a lot of our time together at YM/YW activities. I enjoyed the calling of YW President, but it has to be the busiest calling in the church - R.S. President seemed like a piece of cake compared to it!

Of course we had New Beginnings.

And Stake Standards Day in February - President's Day in fact.

Harry made the famous quilt for Brooke - which we now have. It was certainly convenient that Dad' s and my initials are H and B - so when she gave it back, we could take it over!

In April we took the YM and YW to General Conference. What a great time we had!! And uplifting too.

We all fit in the van!! Those were fun times! We fixed sandwiches on the road too - had a regular deli going!

It was great to meet with Dad's former mission president and his wife - President and Sister Jesperson - had our own little fireside.

Hanging out on Temple Square with my great Laurel class. I love those girls!! And it was fun to spend time at Alice's - where we bunked on Saturday night. We also bunked at Phoebe's place too. It was great to see her and Harry while we were up there.

This would be Sue Graham's baptism - don't ask me why I don't have a picture of her!! These were some of my Young Women - and Hannah - a soon-to-be-Young Woman!

This was a joint YW/Achievement Day Girls activity. We made temple hankies.

February also found Hannah winning the Spelling Bee - and getting a rather large trophy!!

And March would mean the Ides of March!!

I loved Ara's Easter Bonnet!

I think I have posted this before as 1996 - but it's not.

Hannah dyeing eggs. Dad did that this year for a basket he made for Grandma Terrill -we hadn't dyed eggs in years.

This is a blurry photo, but it's the best one I have of Easter that year.

I also attributed this to 1996 - but with Ara in it, it has to be 1997!

April also meant Eliza's birthday - probably a more flattering shot of Eliza - and me - could be found in her scrapbook!!

And this was Noah's birthday - not sure why I didn't have him in the picture!
